Which starter do I have?

99 Tacoma, regular cab, 4 cylinder.

Without taking the starter out and bringing it to Toyota (it's in my Dad's truck far away), how can you tell which starter you have, ie. is it the 1.4kw or 2.0kw model (per toyotapartsales.com)?

Thanks!

OK, so his must be the smaller one since it's 2WD. Thanks!

I assume I can't just get the bigger one anyway, probably won't fit, right?

I think they will both fit. The 2rz and 3rz use esentially the same block and trans bellhousing, so the only difference is how much power it puts out. Obviously the 2RZ doesn't need as much power, nor the option to start the truck in gear so they went with the cheaper to built 1.4kw starter.

If you want an "upgrade" step up to the 2.0kw starter. Same mounting, same connections, slightly more power.
