I just installed my Split Second air/fuel ratio meter, but I don't think it's working correctly. I still haven't done any fuel mods, but the meter keeps jumping back and forth when I drive at constant speeds. Is this normal? Even when I barely hit the gas the meter will hesistate but go all the way to the richest (last blue light) and then fall back down. I will eventually do the fuel mods, but I was wondering if I installed the meter correctly. I installed the new O2 sensor right in front of the catalytic converter next to the toyota O2 sensor. It is at an angle going downward. I had to use my own wiring since there wasn't enough, which might have been slightly thicker, but that shouldn't make a difference.
Any suggestions?

That meter is only accurate at WOT. Otherwise enjoy the light show.

When you mash down on the gas, then it will stabilize and become more accurate. (Still not perfect, but close)

Well then, I'm really confused. When I floor the pedal then most of the time the meter stays constant on the last blue light, which is the richest reading. How can I have a supercharger with the deckplate out and no fuel mods show the richest reading? I look at my S-AFC when I do this and it says my throttle is only 75% open. What is wrong? Why am I not close to 100 % and why is the meter telling me that I don't need fuel mods? Everthing on the S-AFC is at 0 so I guess it is acting as though it is passive.

 

What about when you are at full throttle around 90 mph. Does it come back down or does it stay at the richest blue light?
Our 4Runners operate on a range of about 10.5% to 74.5%, which is the range from idle up to full throttle. I've heard from FattyCBR that he's having the same problem with one of the Apexi units not kicking in, because it needs to be at 100% to change maps or adjust it at WOT, so it never kicks in, because the TPS is at roughly 75% at full throttle. Wierd, yes, but it's this way on all the 4Runners for some reason.

What is the richest setting on the SS air/fuel meter? What's the ratio? Are you using a wide band O2, or just the stock Narrow band O2?

I'm not sure but I think it's just a narrow band. I bought the SS meter that comes with an O2 sensor, since I have a 2000 4runner. Also, my 4runner idles at 0% throttle. I don't understand how yours can idle at 10.5%.

Richest setting is 12.5:1. Like I said, the last blue light lights up when going under 70 miles per hour or so. Then when I floor the pedal the second to last blue led lights up indicating 13.2:1

How do you know what throttle position you are at at idle? I know there's no throttle on, but have you checked to see what percentage you're at, because I haven't seen any different readings. Are you using a BR-3 or SMT-6 software?

It's not unusual for the throttle to go to 100%. On Supra's the throttle will only go to 70-75%. You just have to change your low/high throttle setting for this. Just check what your setting by pushing the pedal to the floor with the truck off. That will be your max. Put your high setting to 60% or so.

Yeah, that makes sense to me, but FattyCBR has one of the units that will only work at 100% throttle, and is not adjustable. Any idea which Apexi unit that is?

If it's a SAFC it will work or at least it has for me even if it doesn't read 100% throttle. Maybe he'll get back and let us know what he is using.

 

Is there a S-AFR? If so, I think that's what he's using.

Thats a HKS part. If never had to used one. I've always gone with the SAFC it's easy to use and it works.

 

Maybe he'll chime in and let us know what unit he has.

Hey ravencr. So your using to NA Supra MAF, and why wouldn't the TT MAF work with a SAFC.

 

Don't know for sure, but I'd say the voltage that comes off of it is too far off, and the NA Supra MAF works because it isn't as far from the stock one, I guess. I'm not 100% sure, though. The other problem may be that it doesn't plug up to our stock wiring harness, which may be the only real reason. Not sure!

Thanks man. I have both at work so I'll check the plug. I have spare plugs (I could cut and splice if there different) for the TT MAF. I'm waiting on the SAFC II limited edition (black) to come in before I install my fuel mods. I have new O2 sensors coming for the dyno soon. Then I can find out whats whats with all these fuel mods.
