squeaking over bumps

after my last wheeling trip where it got pretty muddy, i have had a squeak over the more shocking bumps in the road.

i powerwashed the crap out of my shocks and springs hoping that would cure it, but that hasnt done the job.

any ideas on where i should look next?

Possibly control arm bushings? spray some lube on the bushings and take it out for a drive.

Go over everything again!

My truck is a hopeless squeaker. Like an old bed in the room above the bar in an old western town.

definitely the control arm bushings....especially if you had replaced them with polyurethane ones.....those mothers love to squeak like mice.

I also have a right front squeek! I have no idea what it is, sometimes it goes away, sometimes it doesn't...

What is squeeking on mine over bumps in the front end is that my balljoints are toast.

Give them a look.

bump

ok, so i brought my yota in for service to the dealer as i had a free oil change coupon and i wanted the bj recall done.

question: this squeak is being cause by worn swaybar bushings. he wants to replace the bushings and the links for a very hefty pricetag.

what does this normally cost and is this accurate information??

i'd say they were swaybar bushings. spray some lube on them and fa-ghet-about-it...

mine squeak - i spray them - then they're quiet for a few months.

I couldnt find the price, but maybe consider aftermarket bushings like energy suspension greaseable bushings. There are some writeups in the tech writeup section. This is on my list of things to do as well. And this can be done by yourself (unless there is some type of warranty issue thing)

thanks, im holding off on the swaybar bushings. f it. ill do like you said and get aftermarket ones and replace them later on using the writeups.

my brake pads were gone, so i had them look at them, he tried to tell me he 'couldnt let me out legally with those rotors' because theyre warped... so he said he can either do rotors, pads and link.. or nothing. so i asked for the manager, and he is now gonna just do pads, which is fine for me.

god i hate dealerships.

If you had the same problem i did, which is to say a really annoying squeek when i went over bumps or my truck flexed a little ON ROAD. it just started one day after i off-roaded.

I knew it was bushing but it was driving me nuts, i was spraying everything but it wouldn't go away, a-arms, sway bars, etc.

I finally linked it to my Sway-a-Way Bushing at the bottom of my front shocks. Some lithium grease on the lower bolt where the coilover attaches finally did me right. probably could use replacing, but taking the shocks off right now doesn't excite me. hope this helps.

i replaced my swaybar bushings with the ES poly ones and the rear left (driver's side) ones squeaks on a good turn.

gotta hit 'em with some grease next time i'm under there...

glad to hear yours are toast, too scofco. ok, that sounds weird, but it's not a schaudenfreude thing:

mine are rattling (i think that's what it is at least -- doesn't seem to be anything else up there) and longtime toyota people have said "can't be; toy BJs last FOREVER"

seems forever=12 years for this toy. oh well, still beats a monthly payment and i like my runner better than anything else out there now.
