sputtering 2.7

I have a 2.7 litre in my 97 tacoma. The engine sputters out between 1000 and 2200 rpms. Beyond that range the engine runs great. whats going on? anyone had to deal with this problem?

without any more clues, could be a clogged fuel filter? how many miles? i've had mine for 120xxx, but no problems yet like that.

I have a 97 taco 2.7 4x4 119,000 miles just had high idle and sputtering at all different speeds. I was told possibly two things could cause this by tech at toyota dealer first tyhe EGR valve and second the Trottle positioning sensor I started by replacing the EGR and cleaning throttle body with spray while on truck NO effect at all. Then I took the throttle body off of the manifold and cleaned it right also noticed port in manifold between EGR and throttle body was clogged almost closed with carbon I removed the EGR again and sprayed cleaner thru port and wire pipe brush cleaned it out. Truck idles normal no and does not sputter also much better response.

Hmm... I may have to do this as well because when I took my EGR valve off i noticed a lot of carbon inside the manifold. I temporarily blocked my egr valve off till i can afford a new one because it is stuck open with no saving it. I'll probably wait for a warm weekend in the future and take the manifold completely off and spend a lot of time cleaning it.

no need to take the manifold completely off just remove the throttle body and there is only one port I know of in the manifold and that is on the left side faceing the opening where the throttle body mounts . Once you remove the Throttle body you can put pike cleaning tool right threw it since you have the egr of allready. PS you should be able to clean up the old egr with cleaner
