Bout 2 weeks ago started to Click click when truck sits over night?? Real sporadic. Battery checked good. Originally thought contacts on starter heading south. But it hasn't done it click click all day. Bought contacts & plunger but hate to fix if ain't broke. Can't get it to not start for the last hour....Thoughts???? Connections at starter need cleaning????? thanks in advance.

rflich53, Save yourself some hair pulling and go ahead and rebuild it. You could take it apart and just clean the contacts and it will work for a while but at some point you need to rebuild. If your going to clean it you need to remove it anyway so while you have it out just rebuild it. I went through all that about two years ago and after rebuilding it have had no problems at all. This was on an 01 with about 60,000 on it but I do allot of water crossings and spend time in the mud holes.
While you have it out clean off all contact points real well and the wire leads with sand paper or a fine wire brush. Better to do all this now than have it quit on you in the woods in the middle of the night or during some storm,Lol. Mike

I had the same problem on my 4runner about 1 year ago. I would get the dreaded click click and no start, then it would start up fine. I was cheap and let it go and it would work for awhile but then click click again. Took it to the shop shortly after and they changed the plunger and contacts and after that 1 year and counting of perfect starting.

Advice; change the contacts and plunger.
