I have 2000 4runner with 3.4 engine on it. I am gonna change the spark plugs and i bought some Denso 5062 Copper Spark Plugs. The problem is that i dont know how to properly gap them since they have triple electrodes. So does anyone know how to adjust eh gapping on these or should i just install them how they are. Any help will be appreciated.

Quite a few spark plugs are already properly gapped out of the box. My new Bosch Platinum Dual Electrodes are already gapped to the right measurment.

 

use a wire gauge not a flat blade. still will have problems, but as far as I know, the best way to check. (i say check because the prior comment is correct that often times plugs are pregapped. but i always like to check)

 

Most of the triple and quadruple electrode plugs are already gapped. I think you're only suppose to use dual electrodes on the 3.4 though. It says it right on the engine.

 

don't count on the plugs coming pre gapped. ALWAYS check them. Just the other day I had a set of plugs for a Ford come and one set was good and for the other bank all the ground straps were bent down. some even bent the platinum center electrode. the packaging looked fine.

You never know who is going to drop your parts. ALWAYS CHECK THEM.

 

Thought i read somewhere that you are not suppose to gap the double, triple and quadtruple electrodes.

 

I know you're not suppose to gap the quadtruple, not sure about the other two

 

Gap: 1.1 mm (0.043 in.)

My factory dual electrode plugs from Toyota are supposedly gapped, but they aren't.

Use a wire gap tool, not a flat blade....and DON'T forget the anti-seize on the threads!
