Spare Tire Underneath a 3rd Gen
I found a screw in my tire yesterday and had it repaired today at Discount Tire. While I was there I decided to put a 265/75R16 BFG AT tire on my spare wheel. Everyone there was saying that it was not going to fit but I told them to try it and it fit beautifully. I know this topic has been discussed before but I could not find a definitive answer after doing a search on the topic yesterday so I thought I would re-iterate that a larger spare will fit(this size being the max that will fit with a trailer hitch) since this size is pretty popular here for anyone considering this. I hope this helps.

As near as I can tell, you can fit up to a 32" tire underneath. I've got a 32 under my rig with a trailer hitch (though not the factory trailer hitch). I've heard people say that a 33 will not fit, though my 32 seems to have plenty of room.

Since no one has officially confirmed on any post (that I've seen) if a 285 will fit with a hitch receiver or not, I thought I'd add it here. I finally got around to placing the stock Toyota hitch receiver with the spare 285 and confirmed the inevitable. It will not fit.
The tire pushes it an inch further back and where the 1st hole (towards the front of the vechicle) is on the receiver, it lines up with the 2nd hole on the frame. I suppose one could re-drill some holes, but then the receiver would stick that much further out the back. I'm not sure how much different the Reese, or any other aftermarket ones are made, you'd just have to have about an inch less of the square hitch area for a different style to work.
The tire sits up against the bumper and filling out the slightly rounded area as seen from underneath. There is a 1/4" of room between the tire and the panhard bar. When cranking the tire in place, it likes to slightly rub the panhard bar and the 1/4" space is along the bumper. It must eventually "settle" into its home after a few bumps.
At any rate, here's how a 285 looks in the spare location (hopefully not for too much longer on mine

285 Will NOT fit with the Reese. I could only get a 285 MT/R to fit with all the air let out.
This was a brand new 285 MT/R. It only fit without the Reese hitch. I would say the stocker would be the same.
