Somewhat related....GPS units with street maps??
What is a good GPS that also includes street map/other map capability? Don't need a ton of memory, 2mb would be fine, it HAS to trace routes and have highway/local maps available. Anyone know if this can be had for under $200? Also must be usable outdoors...IE somewhat moisture resistant/sun resistant/etc....

The Garmin StreetPilot III will do what you're looking for, but I doubt you can find it for under $700 even on EBay. I think you options are probably pretty limited in that price range.

I don't need one with directions, just maps.

Look for an older model that has been replaced with something fancy. Magellan made a Map330 that will do roads, and I just sold my last one for under $100. Sorry. Garmin also has a couple of their Etrex models that will do roads, and they are dropping in price with the intro of the 76 series. Also the Garmin V is a decent unit, and the old style is probably down close to what you want to pay, or try to find one of the old Streetpilots. I'll look around at my shop tomorrow and see if I've got anything on close-out, and get you a price range of what you should be looking to pay.

GPS Software
I'm using an older Garmin 38 that you can get on ebay for about $50. I linked mine to an older laptop running Fugawi for mapping, routing and trackback. Kinda bulky right now, as it's not really 'mounted' anywhere
Most the newer GPS units with mapping are well over $200. You could pay 1000,s for an aviation unit.
Think about what you really want to use the unit for. Do you really need maps? If not, you could get away with an older, non-current GPS and save a few bucks.

The Garmin eTrex series probably has something in that price range. I use the eTrex Vista, which is the Vista with the most features. It is also a lot more than $200. But there are other models that could work for you.

If you do decide on Garmin, the best prices that I have found are at TVNAV. I have bought from Darrel more than a few times.

You can even find eTrex used on half.com.

What you want is to find a nice used Garmin III (I say up the anty for the V, But for about $200.. Find the III) The street pilot will not work well as it is not very well suited for handheld "woods" useage.. The nice thing with these, is you do still retain the routing (trust me, give it a week using it and then tell me you don't need your new right arm..) and you get all the functions of the cheaper handheld "hiking" units..
PS, drop me an e-mail if you have any questions.. I have put 50,000+ in the last year with mine...
Here is one for about $130 with 18 hours left
Here's anothe one about $160ish
Heck, just one more because it is under $100 with less than a day left...

I have a couple of the old Garmin V units at my shop if you are still looking. Clearance priced right now at about $210 + shipping. Let me know if you are interested, as they probably won't last until next week.
