I was out washing all the mud and stuff off the underbody of my 4runner today and when I got under and looked back at my rear diff/axle, I noticed on the side of it facing the driveshaft the black paint stuff on it is missing on a lot of it. What could cause that/what should I do about it?

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.

Are you implying that your differential looks like the paint is pealed off?

The reason I am asking, is because the last time I went through mud, after I washed it, I noticed a huge oil stain on the bottom of my axle.

It leaves no stain on the ground, but the stain on the axle is always there.

I'm thinking, new axle seals?

 

What I mean is.. there is paint missing from the axle on the side facing the driveshaft, no oil. I assume it's been sand(rock, dirt)blasted off by my tires throwing stuff, probably no big deal. No rust. Nevermind
