I never factor my time into the cost of doing something to my runner. In my mind, this is my hobby, therefore the time spent on it has no monetary value to me whatsoever. Now, if I didn't enjoy working on my vehicle as much as I do, then I may have to charge myself for services rendered. It would be like charging myself for sitting there watching one of my favorite movies or something.

C'mon Keisur!

I agree with you to a certain extent- time is not a factor if you can be sure that the finished product is of the same or better quality that what you could purchase. However, this is usually related to installation of parts. We all know you didn't build those SAWS that you have. Why? Because a company that has engineers who specialize in building shocks can make them better and cheaper than you can. You installed them because you knew you could do a better job than the local mechanic, but you didn't build it.

I know I could build radio, given enough time, but a CD player? Probably not, and if I did, it would be crap, and cost me more money in the long run. So, if there is someone that has the same part for better quality and cheaper than I could do it on my own, I'm not going to be martyr just so I can say I built it myself.

Okay, I'm done ranting now, time to get some coffee!

Well, I sort of agree about the SAWs, but see, I have no way to machine the parts myself otherwise I would probably have tried to make myself some spacers. but since I had the funds available at the time I bought them. Not that I thought I could do a better job did I do it myself, but it's because I gain knowledge from doing things like this myself ontop of the fact that I have alot of fun, I guess more fun than most and feel pretty dang good about myself after completing these projects. Now, this wiring harness is a bit different, you can't really compare the harness to the SAWs due to their differences in complexity. I have the means of making my own harness but not for making my own set of SAWs. I know what parts I need for the harness so it would be fun, to me anyway, to make my own and be proud everytime I flick on the lights and turn the wife and say, "see what I did?" That to me beats paying anybody for something I can work on myself. So given your speech, you have to look at the complexity. If I can do it and I think it would be fun, money and time don't matter to me, but if it were building SAWs or building an engine from the block out I would pay somebody for that since I have no idea what I am doing. oh by the way, I have printed out wiring diags and part numbers for the harness that I may or may not make, and, while it won't look as pretty as the suvlights one it doesn't matter to me because it will get covered in mud anyway and cleanliness under the hood has never been one of my strong points. Just thought I'd explain myself a little more since nobody seems to understand my love of this hobby.

Well seein' as I'm in Ireland, and trying to get stuff from the US, plus ensuring it suits my rig just is too much hassle. I can get the wiring+connectors+relays easily and properly soldered and heat shrunk joints will be as good as shop bought stuff. Plus the enjoyment of working on your own rig+projects is great.
I rather tinkering around with stuff myself than just going out and buying stuff...
