Sliders Installed - What did I learn
Well I finally finished installing my Maniac Metal Works sliders. Not without some fits and starts.
Lesson Learned #1: Don't under estimate the effort required to install "Bolt On" Sliders. For some reason I had it in my head that drilling 24 holes and mounting 24 self-tapping bolts would be a breeze.
Lessoned Learned #2: Air tools ROCK! I first tried renting a Milwakee Right Angeled Electric Drill to drill my holes. Even w/ a short bit it was still to wide to fit between the frame rails and body. So I needed to figure out a way to drill all the upper holes. AIR TOOLS TO THE RESCUE!!! I was able to borrow a right angled air drill and purchased shorter bits and that did the trick.
Add to that the need to use a right angled air ratchet to start the self-tapping bolts and you should get the picture...get your hands on a compressor, right angled air ratchet and right angled air drill w/ short bits.

Your sliders are looking good, they are so shiny. So you drilled 24 holes, that is not bad, you're just brushing on your drilling skills right? Seems like now you have a lot of lessons learned.
Oh by the way, I like the shine on your black paint. It looks so shiny and as smooth as glass. Did you wax that rig with BOS or Zaino's? It really looking damn good. So sweet and clean.

Want to know some interesting data. They originally built the sliders off of Mike's 2000 4Runner. Which needed a bit of a longer middle leg. Then they test fit the ones they built off of Mike's 4Runner on my 4Runner and the middle leg was too long.
To make a long story short, the production run was built off of my 4Runner with the slightly shorter middle leg and some of you will need the plate some will not. There is variance in the frames.
I don't recall Curt requiring the plate on his 2002 so I really think it's manufacturing variance within 1/4".

Did you wax that rig with BOS or Zaino's?
I have been using this soap I get at Advanced Auto parts and it seems to leave my ride looking shiney, and water still beads. I can't explain it.
Steve: The guys at Maniac told me that story when I called them asking about the additional plates they shipped. However, I didn't realize the final design came from your install.
As you stated they have yet to find out why certain frames require them and certain ones don't.

Not sure if they make them for the Tundra however. As for cost, I think they ran in the mid $300's. I try not to think too much about how much I spend on all this stuff, that way I can honestly play stupid when my wife asks me how much all this stuff cost
