side mount turn signals
Let me introduce myself they call me the Aviator ( probanly 'cause I'm a pilot). I 'm trying to find a source for euro spec. parts for the gen 3 pick-up (called the Hilux in the rest of the world). I have'nt had much luck myself. I'm trying to find the factory turn signal repeater lamp assembly. it is that little light (usually orange) you see on the side of Mercedes, BMWs and some VWs on the hilux it goes behind the front wheel arch and ahead of the door opening. the aftermarket ones they sell for the rice tuners are ok but don't look right on a truck. thanks for the help and remember...
IT IS OK TO FLY YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE AFRAID. Sorry about the shout but I do have to try to save my job here.

The best deal I have found was for the Mercedes ML ones $7.46 Canadian each and most dealers have several sets in stock.
I have them on my 1st gen and love them!

I got the Lexus IS 300 (Altezza) Japan side markers for mine. Different look from the square Hilux and Hilux Surf Japan models, but I like it. No connector so a hard wire install is needed...I hate making holes.

I've been thinking about doing this too. I had pretty much decided on the mercedes units because of aesthetics and price, but the other day I saw some on a Mercury Mountaineer that looked pretty sharp. I'll have to take a photo.

Nothing on my truck is there for beauty...
I added some LED fender signals purely for function, not form. I used some surface mount markers I got from Wally World for $7 each. They are bright, light from them reflects off of street signs at night.
If you use a conventional bulb it will probably slow down the flashes because of the extra resistance. My LED ones add almost no resistance so they flash at the same rate they did before.
I feel much better changing lanes in traffic now because people beside me can see the signal. I think people are more likely to let me merge and stuff with them.
Like I said, they aren't supposed to be pretty, just work.
Installation went like this...
Each side got a 3/8ths hole in the center for the wires to pass through and two 3/16 holes for sheet metal screws. I put a good gob of black RTV form-a-gasket stuff between the light and body to seal it from corrosion then screwed in the sheetmetal screws. a Paper towel dipped in gasoline works to remove excess RTV.
I removed the inner fender liners with a 10mm socket exposing an existing bundle of wires tucked inside the fender. I tapped into the front signal wires and ran leads with the existing wires to the new repeaters. I grounded them on the insides of the sheetmetal screws with Soldering tape and more RTV.
