Hey All-
I was having some trouble shifting into 1st and 2nd especially when cold. I did some searches and found the fix, the shifter seat bushings. Once i got it apart, i found that there was no bushing left! I only found some bits of it in there. Cleaned 'er out, and installed the new ones. The shifting is real nice now with the new bushings in there...BTW I got the new parts from Conicelli Toyota via the internet, and the parts were at my door the next day after I ordered.

 

It's nice having a truck that stays in gear now isn't it.

 

ahhh i need one also shfting into second is a nightmare for me and all gears feel like crap when my runners cold...how hard is it to install?

 

getting the shift boot off is the hard part... after that, its easy......

 

its actually pretty easy! once the boot is off, you have to push down and turn this collar like thing to remove the shifter. it took me a minute to figure out which way the bushing went, 'cuz mine was gone!

 

Marlin Crawler has a supposedly improved version on his website. I am on my third Toyota bushing.

how long did the toyota bushings last you before they went bad?

 

Hmmm let me see, the first set lasted about 50K miles. The dealer wanted to charge me to fix it. $180.00 I was like what about my drivetrain warranty that lasts untill 60K? Well, they ended up putting the $13.00 worth of parts in there and sent me on my way. Then the next set went bad at about 90K miles. I fixed it myself for $8.00. The rubber seat is really all that wears out. The plastic bushing on the end of the shifter was fine. Then at 137K I replaced the clutch so I when I pulled the shifter I noticed that the shifter seat was cracked and in pieces. After finding the one on the Marlin Crawler site I'll probably use it next time. The factory piece is junk.

Another piece of junk from the factory is the 6" section of brake like that is between the clutch slave and master cylinder on the passenger firewall. That damn thing is leaking again.

the one dogdenii posted is the actual upgraded piece from marlin crawler.. the stock one is half plasicy rubber kinda deal and marlins is solid plastic

 

just noticing... marlin says "Two different sizes, one sizes fits W56A and W56B models, the other fits all other 4wd applications." well would i be able to order that for my truck? i have a 4x2... not sure what tranny, my trucks vin says its a w46, however mine is a 5 speed, so it cant be a w46.... i have replaced both bushings before and they look exactly like the white ones pictured on marlins tranny page
