Just got my 4Runner a few weeks ago and will be doing all maintenance and most repairs myself.

What service manuals do you recommend? Obviously a factory manual is best, but too expensive. I've always used Chilton and, although I get by, I am never satisfied with their direction.

I like a combination of Haynes and field service manual. I have a Chiltons but I don't like it.

I'm looking to pick up some manuals too. Everytime I search on Ebay there are about 3 or so manuals for the 2002 4Runner - which ones do I specifically want to do maintenance myself? Should I get all 3?

Always been a Chilton guy myself. From the days before the internets and pdf files. You can get these at the public library for free use, too. Alot of people say they suck, I think because every possible repair is not covered. I dunno, they are very accurate as far as I've seen.

There's a site you can get Toyota FSM's from cheap, download all of them you can in a day for like $10 IIRC. Don't recall the site though.

I just remember it being brought up in a thread I seen somewhere. Never tried it personally. That could very well be it.

I have always had fixer uppers cars around and had to work on them a LOT. i have tried all the manuals and overall the haynes is BY FAR the best.
