Sell step bars...replace with sliders??
#21
If I'm gonna get these babies welded on, I want to make sure it's done right!

I removed the step bars last night, and I will put them up for sale this weekend. One thing I realized this morning.....I used them more than I thought. I went to "step" to get in the truck and well, there was no step there.
But sliders will soon take their place. My truck looks higher off the ground now too!

If you're going to use the sliders also as a step, I'd get sliders that are flat, not angled. Check out this Tacoma with angled sliders:

Not much there to step on. Something like this would be better for you:

Good idea cackalak, some sliders 'hug' the lower part of the truck and wouldn't offer any step up. I'm over 6' tall, but my wife is about 5'6" so she will need some kind of step. Especially after a suspension lift!

Watch your shins, knees and other vulnerable parts of your body. If you slip, the sliders aren't too forgiving! People have put some of those 3M grip tape on the top portion of the sliders to prevent slippage.

They don't look very forgiving, they look more like "Make one wrong step, and I'm gonna tear you up!"
3M tape will be the first thing I do after they are on. I'm finding that it really is nice to have some sort of foot hold to get in my truck. It sits high enough off the ground that it can be tricky to get in. I also noticed when I get out in the garage I have to "slide" out because I can't open my door all the way. Good times, good times.

That stuff works really well I have it on mine, you just have to watch your legs and make sure you don't slide your leg up against it when stepping out of the truck or it will scrape you up lol done it plenty of times but you'll get used to stepping out over them

Which sliders do you have? Has the 3M tape stayed on there pretty good?

its all about prep though, sand the sliders down to bare metal, clean with mineral spirits or similar and then slap it on there and its good to go...

Sliders all the way, one rock or tree stump will crumple the step bar.
Even if you don't wheel often, they'll still provide protection from stray grocery carts and the doors of those who park next to you. I have some different colors on mine from peoples doors. Got to love the people who just fling their doors open in parking lots.

No doubt. My poor wife was the victim of a wet slider when she was climbing in. She ended up with a bruise on her shin about the diameter of a baseball.

Yeah exactly, I don't wheel often but sliders can be a good choice for the times when I do. And I've really been wanting to get offroad more, I mean that's what these vehicles are meant to do!

That works until you put one of the low hanging steps into your rocker panel! oops.....
I always carry an empty milkcrate in my truck for a step for the ladies (and 1000+ other uses) also...try spraying (or rolling) the top with some bedliner...offers similar grip as the 3m but wont look like when it starts peeling off and getting dirty

I angled my sliders up, as you can see in the picture. Angling them up allowed for a bit more clearance. Since I'm 6'3, I don't need the step. here is a pic

my girlfriend, on the other hand, would have really appreciated it if there was more of a step. So all I do is try to park along curbs or tree planters in parking lots, which then makes the step down and up not so bad on her.
