See if you can guess...

....what's wrong in these pics:

(click for larger pics)

Isn't that FUN???!!!

If you can't tell, there are a couple of things wrong... The main thing is that the brake pad came off of the shoe - BOTH pads off of BOTH shoes.

In the first pic, notice the position of the pad relative to the shoes - that's how I found it when I pulled the drum. The second pic is basically the same shot, though you can see the 2nd pad is on the ground, and the rightmost pic shows the nice crack in one of the pads.

The other thing is check out the tab on the adjustment lever... It should be straight and engaging in the gear on the adjustment arm.

I found this after I got home from a ride I did on Saturday. The effect in the cab was SEVERE SEVERE SEVERE shaking of the truck any time braking. In hindsight, I had been having symptoms for about 3 weeks but I thought it was the front rotors warping (again). I didn't want to replace the rotors before a run through mud and water, (figuring I'd just trash 'em again), so I let it go.

Bad idea.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

fwiw... those were Raybestos pads that I bought from Napa about 2 months ago. I hope I can find the receipt.

Wow Mark, that's ugly...and could've caused an "aw s**t" moment. They should also pay to have the drums repaired or replaced. I'd imagine they're pretty well scored by now. Besides shoddy workmanship, is there another reason they separated? Are OEM shoes that much more expensive? Glad you got home safely.

Note to self, stay away from Raybestos pads!

Glad you found it before you found out the hard way.

I really have no idea.. I replaced both right & left at the same time, and the left one is "fine". I ran out of time last night doing this (and light, and the rain kicked in) but I'll replace the left as well.

I think it may have just bee luck-of-the-draw and I caught a bad glue job. Dunno.

Yeah, like BT ("Brian"?) said, it coulda' been pretty ugly.

New shoes are in there now, and I replaced the booster (yes, I bled 'em), so I'm okay.

Thanks though!
