Any hope of lowering underhood temps will be lost on your dirty motor since an open scoop just allows road debris and dust to collect all over the engine and allows more into the intake itself so I'd keep it as is and save yourself time.

It's wishful thinking that you'll see any positive gains from the scoop being open. You'll notice the dirty motor first.

If it worked I would have done it 4 years ago.

Are you a huge fan of chrome? Just curious b/c the Red/Black combo is well... badass and pretty unique on a 4Runner. Have you considered spraying the bumpers and grille?

I like some chrome but not too much. I probable will be doing something to my grill, not sure yet what. I wouldnt spray my bumpers tho since they match the rims and exhaust tip. If my wheels were black I would consider it

You 4Runner people are so lucky to have that hood as a factory option. I want a scoop so bad but I don't know anything about body work so I can't see me grafting one into my hood. Looks "wicked awesome"!

I've been wondering about the scoop. Definitely like the looks, but last time I was on the trail I hit a large puddle that sent water up over the hood and windshield. Does the scoop close completely or is it open?

the hood has the scoop shape built into it and the actual scoop part is a pocket with a screen which is completely closed.

If you want to clean your engine frequently from the added dust that will constantly get sucked into the engine bay then go for it i guess, otherwise I think it looks beautiful the way it is and you will be spending more time and energy on the mod then it is worth.
Ditto; The area on top of your hood (from the leading edge to the top of the windshield frame) is a low pressure area, for a scoop to be functional it has to extend about 2 inches out over the edge of the hood or be a tunnel ram type so its tall enough to get up into the air flow, and if you open it up be prepared for moisture issues. But I do love the look of a scoop just like yours
