I finally got my scoop hood back from paint today and installed it at lunch! They did a great job of matching the paint as its near dead on. Next project.....make the scoop functional into the airbox!

 

Congrats & Looks good, but as for making it functional I would think it through first. There has been a few people from what i recall that tried this, one which included a series of like vacuum flex tube running into the airbox. You arent going to achieve, nor benefit from, any type of "ram" air if the air goes back to your stock box. And the path of the air tubes may actually constrict the air more than the stock intake already. Also a good water crossing will just gulp the water right in!
Bunch of cost/time v. benefit issues to consider first.
But , man those hoods look so good. Really good paint match too from the pics.

Oh man...if you're gonna try and make the scoop functional make sure you do some research. I think a while back some others tried to do the same thing and it just didn't work out.

But that looks damn good. I wish I was keeping my '00 so I could scoop it. Toyota really did it right with the 4Runner scoop.

The hood is a new aftermarket hood I got from ranchotoyotatruck for $150. It looks completely factory. It didnt come with the scoop insert so all that with the hardware was about $125 my cost. The body shop gave me a deal since we send alot of work to them. They did the paint for $200. So I got the whole thing for just under $500. If I cant make the scoop funtional into the airbox, I will at least make it functional to let some air under the hood to lower underhood temps

 

Hell yeah, looking good! What's next on the list?

 

Lets see, new driving lights to go in place of my high beams, possibly sliders. When I have money and want to pay $4.50 a gal for premium, a S/C and headers

 

dude, score! Is that hood fiberglass or metal? that's a damn good deal...you can open up the scoop, but it might end up being a ramdirt/ramwater intake hole.

Its metal. Came primed too. If I open the scoop to the engine bay, It wont be open enough to swallow everything in its path. lol. The celicas are like that. Open scoop down over the motor

 

ya, but how many celicas are intentionally built to run through and over mud pits, creeks, trees, wildlife, and etc? haha.
Its a good idea to get temps out of the engine bay, so as long as you are ok with the extra mess that is possible.

 

Looks awesome! Now you should upgrade your tail lights with the LED tails!

 

I am another guy that is weary of opening up scoops. I don't really think it will help the truck run any cooler. I have heard that the only hoods that are efficient at dropping engine temps are cowl hoods designed to let air out (not in). If you want to clean your engine frequently from the added dust that will constantly get sucked into the engine bay then go for it i guess, otherwise I think it looks beautiful the way it is and you will be spending more time and energy on the mod then it is worth.

 

yup, extraction (cowl) hoods are much more efficient if your goal is to drop engine bay temps. Not only do they let air out, at speed it'll suck all that hot air out like mad.

 

Yea I was thinking of taking the plate out of my scoop to let in air. Do it and tell me what you think. Whats the worst that could happenin?

 

Ah man that looks terrible. Tell you what, I'll step up and trade you my stock hood and take one for the team so you can go back to a cleaner SUV. Looks hot to me man, I'd love to have one on my ride and it's the same color!!

 

Looks very nice! I always loved the look of the scoop and when I first saw it on the '99s......I had to have one. I'm thinking about making some "vent" holes in mine to allow air though to the engine bay. We don't get too much rain here...
