SAW's Installed...Diff Drop Required?

Man, I feel like the Ijit here. I just installed the SAW's on the front of my 3Gen. Do I need, and can I get JUST the diff drop from Revtek and/or Camburg?

You do not have to do the diff drop. A lot of folks do it to relieve some stress on the CVs. Necessity kinda depends on your lift and how much you take it off road. I've had my SAWs in for around 6 months and will finally be getting around to the diff drop in a month or so. I'm getting my diff drop from Mike at Extreme-offroad.

From everything I have read on the forums, from guys who have already "been there, done that" it's kind of a better safe than sorry kind of addition. I'd rather be safe than sorry and spend the $25 to get the diff drop up front than drop a load of $$$ to replace my CVs later.

I'm going to be ordering my SAWs in a week or two hopefully, with some OMEs for the rear, and I'm definitely getting the diff drop and just put it all in at once.

My .02

When you get all that in, you have to come over and hit some trails or SOMETHING with me so I can check out your new suspension... Either that or I'll come to you. Need any help putting it in?

Later,

HIGHJACK ON:

Andy,

I'll let you know when I order it, I expect it to be within the next 10-14 days or so and then I will have to allow for it to get here, if Mike has any SAWs in stock that is. Last time I heard something he was going to have to reorder. I've waited this long, I can wait some more.

Sorry for the high-jack!

Brian

Get the spacers, no question, your CV's will thank you for it.

HIJACK

MPULVER on this board has been waiting for his SAWS from Mike for a couple of weeks now. RaceRunner is building a set of 20 for Mike, and it sounds like they've been taking a wicked long time. So, it may be a little while before they come in.

I called Mike yesterday. I've been waiting to order my SAWS for a month now. Basically he told me that they were supposed to ship out last week, but somehow they ran out of cylinders, so now they're waiting on those to finish building them. Mike's first order to Sway A Way was for like 20 of them, and then he put in a second order for like 40 of them. Still hasn't even received the first order. He doesn't know what he's gonna do yet, but I could tell on the phone he was very very frustrated and dissapointed. He said me might have to just buy from a seperate dealer, but he knows he'll get raped on the price and will lose all profits and actually might lose money selling them. I don't really know what to do either right now, Performance Products started selling sway a ways, I might buy from them, I doubt it though. I'll probably just wait until Mike gets his in. So that's the latest news with the SAW conflict

Thanks for the update Rob! Keep us posted if you hear anything else! I don't want to have to wait a long time, but I'd rather get mine from Mike and wait than PP.

Just to pop in here (sorry about the continued HiJacking)...

I have the same words from Mike. SAW seems to be really holding out on him, or they just simply screwed up and didn't see the demand coming.

I placed my order with Mike on 8/5 for a number of things. Everything except the SAWs are sitting in Dr. Z's driveway waiting for the SAWs so that I can get my butt down there and get things installed. ARGH!

Back on track...

Yes, the diff drop is a good idea. It'll clean-up the "sight line" between the differental and the wheels, which means that the CV angle will be reduced, which is generally a good thing.

Mike,

When you get things resolved, let us know. I for one am ready to get my SAWS and OME coil/shocks with the diff drop within the next 10-14 days, but no since ordering from you until you got stuff to send.

Thanks!

The drop spacers will also reduce the vibration, if not eliminate it, depending on how high you crank them. I have mine cranked to the "hilt" and I had some good vibes, threw in the spacers and the vibes are gone. the vibes are produced from the extreme angle in the cv and it spinning at high speeds. you'll notice the vibes mostly above 50 mph.

yeah you might as well get the diff drop. i got mine from mike (thanks again) in like 3 days. i have 4" lift in the front with the 1" drop kit.

would it be okay to drop the front diff more than 1"?? my cv's are wicked stressed... maybe i will just have to lower the shocks down some. or get a winch.

Yikes, 4" is pretty high. I don't think you can do a much bigger diff drop spacer without stressing the driveline?

I don't think he really needs to worry about it since his cv's don't spin in 2WD; ie. he's got manual hubs.

yeah i was wondering about the driveline... i doubt you could go much more than 1"

but i do have manual hubs so it doesn't matter much for on road driving. but i do wheel pretty frequently... still i think they will be okay.

i just can't keep them locked in the winter... which is usually nice because i can shift into 4x4 if i get a slippery stoplight on a hill or something.... or trying to pull into traffic on a icy corner.. 4x4 would be nice. but oh well.
