Rust prevention
Ok, I drilled 2 holes on the inside of my front side fender for the cb mount in my hood, and I heard that this could cause rust, so what can I do to prevent it? I was told you could just buy something at wal-mart and like brush it on the hole and the inside and it would work?
Here's a pic of Tom's mount, same thing that I did. Hope you don't mind Tom.

I've always used some stuff you get in the UK which is an Acid rust preventer. It supposedly changes the exposed steel and stops it rusting. Alternative may be hammerite.

I always reckon on wiring a separate ground on an Aerial anyway to somewhere you can get at if the tin worm has it's wicked way where the aerial is mounted. That way you can always re make the earth. You can solder a cable to the body of the aerial and run this to a good and easy to get to earthing point.

For something like 2 small holes I usually paint with clear nail polish. The screws going in will cut through that though. After it is installed I would take off the plastic wheel well covers. Then coat the screws and hole with nail polish. When there is 2-3 coats put a big dab of that clear syn grease over the whole thing. You may also need to use a grounding wire from the mount to a good grounding point, unless its a non ground plane antenna.

A nice big blob of clear silicone works for me.
Use touch up paint for any visible areas.
Definately worth the time to take off the fenderwell and do something to the back side of the bolt

Cant beat that seal. Just make sure to mask off the surrounding area really well.

3M has a product called "Rust Avenger" that chemically reacts with the rust and I believe turns it into a iron phosphide coating, kind of like "Parkerizing." I bought some at Pep Boy's years ago and use it every now and then on rock chips. It comes in a "pen" applicator that's suitable for small areas.
