What do you guys think?

Should I take the running boards off or leave them on?

I think it will look better with them off, but I just wanted to make sure.

Call me crazy, but I actually like the running boards. Still, I've been thinking about removing mine too. They get in the way when off road.

 

Take them off and get tube steps (or sliders if warranted).

Take them off!! Replace them with sliders. I was always hitting mine off road. You will be pleased with the look and the ground clearance.

I would say yes for taking them off. I think it can give the 4R a cleaner look, almost lifted .5 inches.
I still have many other things to to to my 94 but, as soon as I finish the front and I start doing mods (manual hubs, springs, etc.), those boards will be the first thing to come off. I would like to put a good set of sliders on though, eventually.

I have a lot of work to do before i get to sliders.

 

i vote for taking them off. when i first got my runner, i took em off within the first week, and people thought i got it lifted a bit. i think it really makes it look better. just my $.02

 

sweet i have been contemplating taking off my runningboards on my '95 but i want to get some good mud gaurds to protect the body once the boards are off. But i think i just got my new weekend project.

No, because with the shape of mine by looking at the pics, you can still see it sits much higher.
You can only really see the outer tubing from the sides.

You can only really see how big the sliders actually are is from looking at them from a different angle as seen here.

From that pic you can see the 3 inner tubes that connect the two long bars, and the tube that is tucked up underneath the body.

They have a pretty slim profile and the rig looks just as high with them on as it did with them off almost.

 

Can you stand on them and use them just like running boards?

 

Yes, you sure can.
I stand on them when I wash the rig and when I access the roof rack.

I use to have that 3M tape on them, but that cut up the back of my legs quite a few times.

They are just plain powder coated now, and not slippery at all when you stand on them.

Mine were $380 installed at the shop.
But like I metioned, I had them redone around Oct.
The paint was not holding up to the rocks that get thrown up where I go, and I did not like the 3M stuff I put on them.

Jeff can powder coat a set for your around $60.
If you order, the price will be lower than mine where, as mine also included the labor.
The powder coating is holding up great.

Mine are unique too that they are welded on, but I can also unbolt them.

Quite a few of us on the forum have this brand and are very happy with them.

Get rid of the boards! mine only lasted about a month before I squashed them 4 wheeling. I love the design of your sliders, Corey, I got a guy around here who is supposed to fab me up a set for $200, and he'll put them on too . I especially liked how you can unbolt them yet they're still welded on. I was going to order a set from Badland Bumpers but as I live in Ok the shipping would suck.

I'm in the process of taking off my running boards. They are really, really rusted on, and it's hard to get the bolts off. I'm getting frustrated. Grrrr. And yes, I did soak them in WD40.

 

I had to use a breaker bar with my socket handle and "crack" them loose.
