Thanks alot. I hadn't seen homie's page yet, but I got the limited idea from Chris's page. What kind of end caps did he use, or did he custom make those? They remind me of the limited boards.

 

i wanted to take mine off put the wife wont let me as she says that she wont be able to get in without them , i might just do i and see if she says anything

 

Looks wise, I rather have them off because visually it makes the truck look taller.

functionality wise, I rather have them on because the women prefer them on to get in and out much easier. I was out to lunch with a girl and she b*tched about how high my truck was and she couldn't get in without my help.:pat:

Are you trying to pick up chicks or actually wheel. If your gonna wheel throw them away and while your at it lose the mud flaps!

You're right throw away the boards and go wheelin'. Use other cars for lunch dates.

Forget running boards, I'm getting some rock sliders instead. Going to check rock sliders reviews now...

 

Damn strait! I hate super tricked trucks that only conquer pavement. Ditch the boards and wheel the damn thing!!! Pick them up on your bike if you have to. Just my .02 cents though. Hey check out www.Kongs4x4.com for sliders!

 

haha..if anyone knows what to do to their toy to pick up chicks..they need to tell me. i still think it looks better with them off...i like what chris did to his boards though..it makes his 4runner look good

 

my 2002 sr5 came with the stock black running boards, but i didn't like those so i got some tube steps. now that i'm getting more and more into going off road, i just might someday replace those with some sliders.

i just liked the look of the tube steps much more than the stock ones. i think runners look good with and without the steps, for a while i had none . i didn't so much get them for the ladies...i figure if a girl is so much of a princess that she needs help getting into a car, she doesn't need to be riding with me. though i will admit i was glad they were there when i went to colorado and my grandma needed some help getting in my truck

 

I skimmed and didn't see any mention of how it really is a good idea to get mud flapps so rocks don't come up and hit the side of the car while in turns... I have yet to do it... and need to.... just my .02

 

Mud flaps are for newbies. Take em off!

I ain't no newbie, but I love my flaps.

Some of us have $20 to $40K rigs here (I have over $20K invested) and we like to keep the sides nice.
Once chips make there way into the sides, rust can start in very easily.

As soon as I took of my running boards, I had mass crap thrown all over the sides.
Putting on the old Smittybilt's did not help either.
Putting in the stock '89 to '95 truck flaps helped a lot, even with the sliderz.

If I had an old rig, I might leave them off.
But also in some states it's a law that you must run a flap to prevent rocks from being thrown up on drivers behind you on state & city roads.

Phong here has info in the exterior section on flaps for the 3rd gens after removing the boards.

 

Personally I think if you are worried about chipping some paint on your trail rig maybe wheelin isn't for you! Don't take offense just my .02 cents!

 

My Runner is not a trail rig.

It is a daily driver that takes me to work during the week, and gets me to the mountains on the weekends.

It's a multi purpose rig that I intend on keeping nice to pass along to my son one day perhaps.
It also takes 1st place at Boeing carshows

One can have a well detailed rig, and still take it out on weekends to have fun in it.

Now if I had a 2nd rig dedicated for trails, then it would have it's share of pin stripping down the sides of it, and lots of dents.
But not this rig, it's to purdy to mess up.
