Royal Purple is another brand of oil. Im pretty sure its synthetic, dont remember though. the oil is actually purple. but its really expensive, i think 6-7 bucks a quart. my friends w/ sports cars run it.

Yes, it is a full synthetic oil that actually is purple in color. Their website has all kinds of specs and info on it, and some tests/article are linked. I think it would be comparable to Mobil 1, and if you shop around, you should be able to get it for almost the same price.

Now then, lets not get off topic and start all over with the debate of dino oil vs. synthetic. I think it has been covered at least once before...

Yeppy, it is PURPLE oil and a true synthetic. In my area, the price for it is about $0.50 more per quart than Mobil1. I run the 5W-30 stuff.

Peace.

I gotta ask, is this stuff as good as Amsoil and Mobil-1 ?

I ask because: I bought an '03 and it is actually cheaper to take it to the dealer for oil changes (even considering I will buy my own oil Synth.) I've always used Mobil-1, but since I might not be able to watch my 4Runner... If it's purple, I can check afterwards <G>

I too thought there was going to be a purple 'runner pic here.

I believe it to be every bit as good as ANY quality synthetic. In most head to head tests against other synthetics, RP usually wins the fuel economy tests.

I have run it for some time and I prefer it to Amsoil. When it comes time to change my gearboxes, I'm going back to RP in them too.

Royal Purple is comparable to Amsoil or Redline. Mobil1, IMHO is overpriced crap.

Although I don't run synth in my Toyota, it is the oil in the wife's Benz. The day we took delivery of her new one, I drained the crankcase and loaded her up with Redline (the Benz, not the wife ).

Check out Gadget's site for some excellent commentary on synthetic oils and Amsoil.
