Roof Rack for 4-Runner

Does anybody here have a roof rack (full size) on their 4-Runner. I have decided to keep my 86' 4-Runner, clean her up a little and keep her for a few more years.
I need the full size rack for placing a tent on top with a ladder.

Will the fiberglass top on my truck take the added weight of the rack and people up top?

If you haven't seen what I am talking about look at Hannibal Roof Racks, etc.

i dont know if hannibal make roof racks for 4runners. I have looked in to them but I have never found them. Usually land cruiser and land rover. They would probably custom make you one lol for more than the other ones...which would be upwards of 2grand

Thumbs up Custom Racks

I bought a custom made rack a number of years back from a eBay guy < Link to his auction >. Good deal, great rack. I think his email is blackout@infomagic.com. He'll build them whatever size you want. You'll probably want to put it on supports similar to a canback though to support the extra weight, or like a ladder rack.

i've got a yakima rack, load warrier with extansion, and two bike mounts on my '89. yakima has a little 4 inch long fake rain gutter that you bolt to the fiberglass. it holds the weight well. i've had my spare tire, two bikes, and 10 gallons of gas on my rack with no issues at all. don't bolt to the fiberglass rain gutters, they're not strong. i have a friend who just has his bolted to the fiberglass gutters and he only hauls one bike or one pair of skiis, and you can see little cracks forming in the gutter near the clamp.

i bet if you used 4 load bars instead of two, you could easily have people up on the truck. maybe the megawarrior from yakima would be big enough for your purposes.

I just set up a Yakima Load Warrior with 2 extentions to lengthen it the full length of the roof and enough to set up and air mattress and tent. Its supported by Yakima Towers and the stock roof rack. I still need to order 2 more mounting brackets to reinforce the center of the rack. Not sure how a ladder would work with the tailgate.

Damn Josh. That's pretty cool. You didn't sleep up there at Superstition? What gives?

I take it you took your truck back from Protrux. I didn't see it when they put my locker in.

Very cool pictures Josh!
No worries about weight distribution and being on the roof, huh?
