Does anyone know if they make the black rockcrawler rims with the same backspacing (or close) to the stock rims on a 2nd gen? I'm thinking of getting a set of these when I get new tires but I don't really want them to stick out real far. I've checked some websites that sell them and haven't really seen any that are very close.

The RockCrawlers have like 3.75" of backspacing, or less. I think Yota rims have 4.5" or something like that... Not 100% sure though.

 

Yes. There are dozens of companies that make black steel rims, and they are available in any width, any bolt pattern, and any backspacing. a quick Google found black steel "rockcrawler" wheels with 2.5, 2.75, 3.5, 3.75, 4, 4.5, 4.75, and 5" backspacings... 3.5, 4, and 5 were the most common for 6 lugs.

 

Ok. So 2nd gens have 4.25" of backspacing? Or is it 4.5"? Hopefully this isn't that stupid of a question, but the less backspacing they have, the farther they stick out, correct?

 

Not a stupid question at all.
I believe the stock wheel backspacing was 4.25 on the 15x7s.
The lower the number the more the wheel would stick out, yes.

But also, with a lower number backspacing the tire swings through a wider arc, and will contact the rear of the fenderwell or the valance & bumper more easily with more offset too.

But then consider that changing the tire size will make a difference. For instance on mine I run 15x8.5 and the 35x12.50s clear the upper control arm by about a half inch. I'd have to measure to see what I have, I can't remember, but lets just say I have 3.75 - if my rims were the stock 4.25 my tires would rub the suspension.

There have been a deep pile of discussions about this, use the search feature and you'll find all sorts of testimonials...

 

I think all the IFS lifts (minus the Rancho/Downey) require 3.75 or less because of the knuckles... Just food for thought...

I will probably be getting at least one more set of 31x10.50s and unfortuantely wont be able to afford a lift anytime soon, so I will most likely end up getting 15x8" with 3.75 or 4" of backspacing.

I'd been searching around and did notice a bunch of threads discussing backspacing, I just didn't find any that stated the stock backspacing. I found one now that I've already started another thread, lol.

Hmm, it looks like 4wheelparts only has 15x8" wheels with the 6on5.5 bolt pattern with a backspacing of 3.75~4.5" in the Series 97 style.
I prefer the design of the Series 51 wheels but they only come in 3.5" backspacing for my size/bolt pattern.

How well would 31x10.50" BFG All-Terrains or Mud-Terrains fit on a 15x8" wheel? I'm hesitant to stick with 15x7"s because I may end up getting wider tires eventually. However, I don't really like extremely wide tires anyway so they would probably be something like 33x10.50 muds. So I guess what I want to know is, how big of a tire could I fit on 15x7"s?

Print this picture, go to Discount Tire and ask them for this rim and drive away happy.

They are 15X8 and work perfectly with a 10.50 tire and look great.

They obviously do stick out about 3/4 of an inch more than stock but it looks even better and beefier.

The rims I think are brand name "UNIQUE" in black.

 

Unique is owned by Cragar. It's their cheaper brand I believe.

Still...steel wheels are basically all the same.

 

What's cheap about it?

I didn't mean it like that. I meant less expensive. I don't know if they're just the same wheels with a different brand name or what.

I know that when you're on Unique's site, they have a link back to Cragar, and that Cragar makes steel wheels also.

 

Just remember you will have a big more rotational weight... I can't wait to get another set of alloys. Ive got bigger tires so that makes it even worse (I have stock gears) so I'm thinking of going back to my stock wheels and getting some MTs for my steelies and keep them for wheeling trips and use the stockers for the street.

I think those are the ones I am getting tomorrow. I am going to Discount tomorrow afternoon to look at a set they have. 297 series is what those are I believe. I originally wanted the 42 series with the D shaped windows instead of round, but the more I look at those (especially since you supplied a pic of one with a tire on it), the more I like them. I guess I'll decide tomorrow.

I prefere the round holes too. Just got mine about a month ago. Mine are branded Allied type 81, Soft 8. They are 15x8 (not sure of the offset) with 32x11.5's. They stick out about an inch or more. I didn't like it at first, but it does make it look more rugged. I like it now.
