my power antenna just popped out of its socket today. the whole cable/belt and telescoping assembly just spat out of the unit. it's toast.

anyone have any advice/tips on replacing? recommended brands? etc.

Once the power antenna goes, most folks have given up and replaced them with a manual one. There are a number of threads on the forum talking about the process and folk's choices.

ask UKMyers or Cebby here. I believe for 2nd gens, you can just swap out the power antenna for a non-motorized one. I love my Taco whip antenna. No maintenance and it works well.

Yes man ditch the power one unless you never ever wheel. Cebby went through 3 of them. I went through 2. The fixed mast one is much stronger and if you want it down just take it off. The mod is not that hard to do and the part #'s are on Bob's write up here Well shoot I thought that the 2nd Gen numbers were in there but anyways this will give you an idea of what's involved.

Sorry to dredge up an old post, but thought I should add some part info for others.

BTW, bob's writeup, linked above, is great. I'm going to paste his parts list and annotate:


Parts
Antenna Assembly: 86300-35090 (list price $36.94)
Tacoma Whip antenna: 86309-AA040 ($27.38 at my dealership)

The part numbers worked for me, but I found that antenna assembly is $50.92 (at Liberty Toyota in C-springs, CO) v. the listed $36.94. However it includes a silver antenna (so no need to buy the separate mast). Also I noted that Black whip antenna is $41.63.

Though I wanted the black whip, i'm cheap and took the included silver mast.

 

Do all of your suggestions/part numbers work for replacing a kinda working power antenna? (it doesn't go up or down but its still standing...barely)

I want to replace the power antenna that I have now with a COMPLETE Taco Whip (black) antenna assembly.

Will all those part numbers work my 2nd gen with a power antenna?

a nice, light coat of black spray paint will give you the look. thats what i did to my silver antenna and no probs with reception. its my back up antenna.
