Replacing my motor

Hello guys. I am about to swap my 5VZFE(187k) out of my 97/automatic with another one I have on an engine stand. I just did the timing belt and waterpump 2 months ago on the 187k motor. doh. Oh well, while I have the ~90k 5vzfe sitting on the stand, other than the shims, what else should I take a look at before I do the swap. I don't know the previous condition of the motor than it has about 90k on it. Rear main doesn't show any sign of leaking yet but time will tell that one... Thank you.

I wish. I live in the peoples republic of CA so a swap and smog are just a hastle. My current motor's shims or cam are way out of spec. I did the measurements and toyota doesn't offer any shims close to what I will need. .043 is one of the gaps. Anyways it ticks like its a diesel and the latest thing is that my knock sensor on bank 1 threw a code. I am unsure if there is any detonation over the sewing machine factory under the hood but I suspect that its the wire or sensor has probably gone bad. Rather than pull the intake and put too much more effort into it I figure it's just time. Either way it served a good life and has done me well. The rest of the truck is just fine except for the lack of an elocker and I would like to keep it for another 10 years if gas is still around. hehe

Well, you mentioned it, but, Id do the rear main now. Dropping the tranny isn't that fun!

Very true. I suspect that I have to replace the rear main on one of my mustangs right now too.... I will probably do that too then. Thanks for the suggestion.
