I decided that I wanted to try something different, so I gave my Fabtech rebuildable coilovers to a buddy and replaced them with SAW's.

First impressions; The shaft of the SAW's is A LOT beefier than the Fab's. The Heim joint on the SAW's feels a lot more solid than the bushing on the Fab's. The Fab's are threaded all the way up the shock body, the SAW's are not. The double-ring locking system on the Fab's feels more substantial than the hex-key system on the SAW's. The "hat" on the top of the assembly is taller on the Fab's. Workmanship between the two is comparable.

After wheeling the SAW's hard yesterday, I can now offer a few observations on their performance versus the Fab's. The SAW's definitely soak up the bumps better than the Fab's. The ride is smoother with SAW's and more rigid with the Fab's. Since I got the Tundra valving on the SAW's, they seem to tolerate all the extra weight I have on my truck, with less front end dive than the Fab's. The SAW's seem to fade less than the Fab's during long stretches of washboard.

Between the two, I think the resistance to fade and Tundra valving make the SAW's a better bet for me, but having had both coilovers on the same truck, I can say that both are quality and you are not likely to go wrong with either. Perhaps I will try the King's next.

No, Gene and I went out to explore Tonga Ridge with the Jeep club from work. It's going to be a good place to go exploring this Summer. The roads go on and on and on, with trails branching off to either side.

The Mog's and Jeep's spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get themselves unstuck, but we did just fine.
