does anyone have any tips on removing the tranny with transfer case?

i've got a manual and took a look under there, but no easy way to get the cover off to get to the torque converter bolts.

the manual also says to remove the ehxaust pipe, not sure why... as there seems to be plenty of room for the trans to come out with the pipe still there.

any help?
