My gauge cluster predicament

Ok, here's my predicament. Saturday, my brother and I drove from Oswego, NY to Coatesville, PA, just East of Philadelphia, to pick up 4 doors and a tailgate for his 90 SR5 22re 4runner. They were coming off a 93 SR5 V6. We get there and this guy has 3 4runners, all v6's, that he's working on, plus the one he's parting out (the 93 SR5 V6). We ask him for a center cap for my brothers runner - $10 - SOLD! So I ask him about the gauge cluster from the 93... Is it mechanical or electronic? He said, it's analog. How much? $20 - SOLD!

I never looked at the cluster. Hey, for $20! I'm not dumb.. just happy! Mind you, this was 620 miles round trip. Anyway, we get about 50 miles down the road and I pull the cluster out to check it out. ARGH! No speedo connector on the rear. It was just miscommunication, The guy was awesome! But I think he was talking about the odometer, it is in fact analog.

So, on to my questions...

1. What would need to be done to run an electronically driven speedo and dump my cable?
2. Does anyone have a gauge cluster for an 89 SR5, 22re, cable driven, that they'd want to swap with my 93 SR5, V6, electronic driven?

I don't know about the 22re as the only one we have doesn't have a tach, but my V6 redlines at 5800. Don't know for sure about your second question...but you'd probably need the sending unit and assorted cables/wiring.

Can someone rename the title of this message to read "My gauge cluster predicament"? Thanks

Cool! The cluster I have shows 5750 as redline. It looks like the 22re and the V6 are both the same. Btw, nice clean rig!
