Rebuilt engine problems

I installed a newly rebuilt Jasper 22re on my truck. I got it cranked up and it ran fine until I noticed it was leaking oil like crazy. Damn! So I put some dye in the oil to find the source of the leak. I find that it's coming from the head on the front right side of the engine and to a lesser degree from the timing chain cover. Both of which came factory installed. So I take it up to the local shop since they are an authorized Jasper warranty center . It turns out that the head is cracked and causing all the oil leakage. Jasper says they'll warranty the head and pay the labor up to fifty-four dollars an hour. The local shop charges $79 so I'm stuck with the difference. To Jasper's credit they have great customer service but I'd attribute the bad head to sloppy worksmanship and/or failure to pay attention to detail. Overall, I'm pissed.

I can't believe an "authorized Jaspar warranty center" is milking you for an extra 29 bux an hour that Jaspar won't cover. Seems to me that if they are "Jaspar Authorized" then they should have some kind of negotiated shop rate. Find out where you can send it to get it fixed at Jaspar's expense. Their screw up should not cost you a dime. Period. I'd be pissed too...

Yeah, id be pretty pissed too. Having to fork out an extra 29 bux an hour for a mistake that shouldn't have been there in the first place. Good customer service or not, they should cover it all or have a negotiated shop rate like alltrac said.

I'm trying to negotiate with them right now. I'll post an update when everything gets sorted out but like you guys said, there's no way I'm putting out a dime to fix their screw up.

If they wont do it for Jasper's rate, then take it someplace else.

$79/hour is what you'd pay at the stealer.
