Tacoma: Rear Leaf Springs question>

We had some stuff in the bed of the 97 Taco today, and the half bald 265/70R16 tires were rubbing....WTF? WHen there is nothing in the bed, the truck is almost perfectly level (rear about 1/4-1/2 lower)..but the leaves are also perfectly straight...With any weight, they are reversely bent..

Where can I get new stock height or 1" lift leaves? Should I do the shocks too? Should I do shocks at all 4 corners or is just doing the rear fine? How hard is the install? Any instructions?

If you have the $$$ you can get custom leaf packs like Deaver, Alcan or even Donohoes. Or you can do AALs and regain some of the lift back. As for shocks I would do all 4.

Alcan or Deaver will run you between $500-$700 depending on the setup you want. As for the 'Hoes you can goto www.performanceproducts.com and get prices there. But I would recommend contacting Jason at www.demello-offroad.com . He's a really cool guy and will answer any and all questions you have about what you need and want for your suspension. He's located in the OC in Cali.

You could look into a local spring shop. (I.E. Here I have Hagerstown Spring Works). Ask them about having the springs re-arched, or how much a new set would be. Might be cheaper for you if you don't have the money right now.

leaf springs

I had that problem with mine, although I was forced into a repair situation due to an overly large amount of pressure treated lumber, I was looking for the same setup, stock height maybe one inch of lift and higher capacity. I found it at Wheelers Off-Road.

http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/tacoleafs.htm

I used the 5 leaf pack and the rough country shocks they offer and due to a lack of funds left the front stock, now they offer a matching front setup that will soon become mine. Although now I want more lift so I may look into a spacer setup...hope that helps.

ps

I have no pics of the install but all I can say is SOAK THE BOLTS IN ADVANCE, then soak them some more, I ended up cutting mine off when my substantial 230lbs jumping on a breaker bar failed to loosen them after about an hour...
