Rear tire carrier, what ya think?

I got a really good deal on a used cbi tire carrier, I got it on this weekend.

I replaced the light above the license plate, and gave it a fresh coat of paint, just need to get a hitch stabilizer, as it has some play in it.

I am going to alter it sometime soon, I am gonna raise the tire about 3-6inches, and push it back closer to the runner, and add a place for my jerry can.

Painted

Installed

Cleaned Tire

So what you guys think?

It just wobbles a little, and I am getting one of these to fix that problem

it bolts onto your trailer hitch and forces the carrier to stay still.

I bought a used CBI carrier too. It wobbles quite a bit. I ended up angling it in towards the truck a little more. Thought it stuck out too far.

How is that plate and ubolt going to keep it from wobbling? If it works like I think it does it would keep you from being able to lower the tire...

It pushes up on the part of the acrrier right outside of the hitch, before the swing part.

Update, no wobble now

Went to oreillys looking for a hitch stabilizer, and found some leaf pack clamps. They looked like they would do the job, and they did.

still opens and closes just fine.

Chris,

Yo man, looks good!

Now all you need is a big ole fat tire to stick on there besides the stock tire!...I figure thats just another thing to add to the list!

Take care bud!

Yep, its on the list. I know some used tire places around knoxville where i should be able to get a meaty tire up there.

look under>images>Toyota Armor>tire carriers.

Steve @ CBI does not stock the tire carriers. Each Carrier is made to order due to different measurements he needs from the buyer prior to fabbing it.

Yep he does, this one was for a 1st gen runner with a marlin crawler bumper, so it sits a little low. But that isnt going to be a problem when i mod it to fit closer to the body, about 3-6 inches taller and a jerry can holder.

Ok, I was basing what I said on an email I got from him when I was thinking about ordering one from him a year or so ago...

I saw the pictures but didn't find a place to buy the carrier. Now I know why! Thanks!
