Rear diff whining

i just rebuilt the differential case with a new pinion and ring and after i put it all back together i drove it around for a bit and everything i let go of the gas the whine starts to happen, also it has a rear diff lock. the light happens to be on all the time too, the abs light has been on too since i've changed it. i was wondering if anyone on here can give me tips i'm stumped, this is my first 4x4 car, i've worked on hondas and mitsubishis before so i'm not new to this stuff.

how did you "rebuild the differential case"... did you set backlash, and pinion depth? because its whining i am guessing not...

gears need to be set by someone who has the tools to do it...

go to gearinstalls.com and check to see if you set the gears up like he does.

Setting up gears can be one of the most difficult things an auto mechanic has to do. You jumped in head 1st so I'll give you that! Did you follow the FSM or just wing it? It sounds like you need to reboot and start over.

also.. when you installed the new gears in the rear, did you use the same ratio as the front?

i'm sure it's the same ratio it's a 2000 4runner 6cylinder limited with diff lock, it was 4.10 i believe. but is this the reason why the diff lock light is on also? and the abs light is also on.

if it takes off and screethces like that im guessing your in 4 wheel because if the ratios are different in the axles it will cause it to pull and jerk.

it will happen in 2wd also because you have ADD, therefore the front drive-train is spinning regardless of if its in 2 or 4wd.
