Is your gas tank/skid damaged? My DS does not hit my tank.

The OME shocks are just the right lenght that it should not hit with an undamaged tank/skid.

Yep, the gas tank skid is bent. It is actually against the tank on the bottom. The only part of the driveshaft that hits is the flange where it bolts to the third-you should be able to see the shiny edge of the flange in the picture. Could the fact that my panhard is stock be causing this?

How about making another gas tank skid plate like yours?

I did not think to look at the front lower bumsptops while it was flexed, but when I got home I noticed that there was a nice clean circle where they had apparently been touching at max extension.

Oh yeah, the pics of the cambolts on your website sure helped in my alignment, thanks!

Well, I hate to tell you but until you fix the tank and/or skid you’re going to have contact. We are talking about 1/16" to 1/8" max clearance at best with pristine brand new parts.

As for the gas tank skid, I will tell you what I have told everyone who has ever asked. It takes so much work to make the skid plate it is ridiculous, If I made them to sell it would cost as much as a rear bumper from me or Trail Carnage. At that point no one would ever buy them.

So sum it up, it's way too much labor and would require a very complex jig, far more complex than the bumpers require.

I built mine on my 4Runner, but I will not build such complex production parts on my truck. It has feelings too.

I had to ask about the plate but that it was I thought. Is there any merit to just beefing up the bottom of the plate or are the mounting points just as weak as the rest of the plate?

Maybe I'll remove the skid and beat it back into place or just slightly bend the lip of the plate where it contacts the driveshaft.

You could try just the bottom but the problem your having now is due to the mounting brackets shifting.

Try to streighten it back to stock as best you can. It is also possible that the tank is fine and just the skid is bent. If this is the case pounding the skid back should be easier.

Yeah, that is what I think-that the skid is just touching the tank. A little hammer treatment should help.

Sorry to bring this post back from the dead.

If I were to order the bumpstops from Sonoran Steel...would I be able to tell a difference in normal driving conditions?

I read the site so I know all of that but I'm just asking for a practical answer, if I unbolt the stock bumpstops and bolt on the new ones from Sonoran, will I notice a softer ride driving from here to the mall? Or is it only on huge bumps? Cause I know there are a few places around town where it really rocks and rolls the Runner.

Thanks,

Fink

Only on big bumps, or when towing. You won't notice a difference driving around town unless there are big potholes. They are really nice when towing a heavy load. I think they are worth the money.
