rear brake drum adjustment

Guys- just changed my rear drum brake shoes- one side keeps over adjusting causing the shoes to over tighten after a day or two of manually adjusting-
Greased the contact points- all the springs seem ok- teeth on the adjuster wheel seem ok- not sure how they compare to a new one?? Is this the self
adjuster that needs to be replaced?

Sorry man I don't know. I would imagine the tensioner threads could get rusted up inside. I've never had a problem except I know wet drums will lock up until they dry out.

Sometimes people forget to install the spring that tensions the arm that locks the adjuster

If the shoes get tighter with use of the E-Brake

Springs were installed- installed all new parts Tuesday evening (three new springs/new adjuster/new lock springs)- I have to say - on one side the spring that
was used to put tension on the adjuster arm was not as tight as the new spring- either way- we installed all new parts- we will give it a few days to see if the
brakes over adjust again- we are using a temp gun to compare each side after the truck has been on the road for a while and so far both sides are reading
at 109 degrees at the top portion of the backing plate- before one side would jump up to 122+ degrees while the other side was holding at 109 degrees- and
there would be a heavy smell of hot brake pads coming from the hotter side-

In your case it could be you just have the side getting hot adjusted tighter then the other side so that side is doing all the braking on the rear axle.

122 degrees is not hot at all for a brake Are you talking Fahrenheit or Celsius ??

Your only talking a 13 degree difference

Did it get to the point the brake completely locked up ??
