The passenger side, rear window(not the door), was broken out of my vehicle a while ago. I'm trying to get it fixed now but am unsure of how to go about it. Most likely I will take it to a shop to have them install the replacement that I bought off ebay for 40 bucks. The confusing part is the seal. This is a custom seal for the window, not the stripping that they use on every vehicle when replacing a windshield. I have the seal I pulled off my 4Runner, broken glass still in the edges and all. The window I purchased still has its seal attached, but there is some damage that looks to be from a utility knife used in removal, and a few of the plastic clips are broken off. I think my seal seems to be in slightly better condition than the one on the window I purchased.

So the question is: is this a seal I can buy from Toyota and install onto the "new" glass after removing the old one or should I just try to scavenge the one on there or mine?

I don't know specifically about the 4runner rear glass but sometimes you have to buy a new window with the seal or weatherstrip all as one if it needs replacing. Trying to clean all the broken glass off your old one, then attaching it to the new window, then setting the glass with urethane sounds like a leaky window waiting to happen. I'd call the glass shop and see if they will tell you if it's possible to reuse the old window molding, maybe price a new window with the molding.

 

Take it to an auto glass shop and save yourself the headache.
