Question Rain / Car Wash rear Window & Power Lock Issues !!!!

I am having issues with my rear window going down and the power locks repeatedly trying to go up (even though they are already up) in my 2001 4Runner Sport. This has happened in the winter a few times and I thought it was due to the cold weather and seemed to be alright once the temps got above freezing. Oddly enough this problem is starting to happen when I go to the car wash or when we get a rain storm during the Summer. I have looked around and can't determine what is getting wet nor where the issue is that is causing this as everything else electrical seems OK. Please help me out if you have any ideas or can point me in the right direction.
Thanks,

Eric

Hmmn, I thought others may have had this same issue where water throws the locks and rear window into a frenzy. I have taken the drivers door panel off along with the driver side controls and that doesn't seem to be the problem as everything is dry and the proble still persists. Is there something in the tail gate like a seal that may be letting water in which then causes the rear window / lock issues to appear? I'm really hoping someone has an idea where the likely spot water is coming into contact with the electrical system and only effecting the rear window and power locks?

I'd take your rear door apart and look at the components in there. There is a control box back there for the keyless entry, and most likely for the rear window, as that can be controlled via the remote. Start there. Then I would take a look at your main ECU, which is tucked behind the glove box. If you have a leaky windshield seal, it can drip on the ECU (mine did).

Thanks for the advice, I'll start looking at the ECU behind the glove box first and check the tailgate next. Appreciate the Help!

Well I looked in both spots today and didn't come up with anything solid that would point to what or where the problem is. I did have a rear window only issue though after checking connections (it went down and wouldn't respond for a min or two) and it has been dry for a couple days now. I'll keep looking and if any of you have some ideas or experience where to look let me know, I appreciate the help.

Update, I ran her throught the car wash yesterday and found that the front windshield was leaking in the upper right hand corner. I took a look at the outer window seal and it seems to be deteriorated and will need to be replaced. I'm thinking I'll have "auto glass specialists" pull out the windshield and reseal it, unless there is a better option ? Thanks,

Eric

OK, I had the window pulled to reseal it, but still am having the issue with the rear window and power locks going on the fritz when the truck gets wet. The rear window will go down everytime I raise it and the power locks keep trying to open every 10 seconds even though they already are open. I would really appreciate any help on this one as I can't seem to pinpoint what or where on the truck that is getting wet causing these issues. Thanks,

Eric

Well the issue seemed to go away after I had the front windshield resealed, but it started happening again tonight (POWER LOCKS GO UP AND DOWN ON THEIR OWN - REAR WINDOW LOWERS). I'm a bit surprised that no one else has had a similar issues and hope someone can at least lend some advice on what and where to look to find the problem. The next options are stealership to let them diagnose and repair or trade / sell it, although I really like this vehicle.

it is the controller that receives the keyfob remote control signals

the body ecu controls the wireless power locks and wireless rear window down
which is under the driver side dash between steering wheel and driver door, just below
the remote mirror switch

you may have a bad body ground. you may be getting trolled by someone with a
remote control, or your own remote control is trolling you

check the ecu under the dash, between steering wheel
and driver door, right below the remote mirror switch and all
wiring going to that ecu

yank the battery from your keyfob

I'm guessing it is related to a bad ground on the ECU as I have had the remote out of vehicle range and it still acts up. As I mentioned before it seems to be triggered by rain or when I wash the truck and will sometimes wait until I'm out of the vehicle (like work for instance) and when I return the back window is down and the locks are on the fritz. I'll look at the ECU tomorrow and see if I can trigger the issue or find the bad ground. Thanks for the help BigBallsMcFalls, I appreciate it.

Maybe there is someone with a remote that works with your vehicle and they're screwing with you.

I'm pretty sure I'm not constantly being followed with someone deciding to have fun with me when it rains or when I wash my car (sometimes monthly or longer). With that level of dedication they surely would find it easier to steal all of my possesions including the 4Runner and be done with me.

UPDATE:
The weather has remained below freezing and the lock / rear window issues haven't returned, hopefully I'll be able to resolve it when it does. I found the fuse (30amp - Different from the other fuses) in upper rh side of interior fuse block that controls the power locks and power windows. At least if it acts up I can pull the fuse and not have to worry about the window going down while it is raining, snowing or god forbid while I'm actually in the car wash.
