All the write-ups I've read said you needed fine-threaded rod. Any reason for that or will regular threaded rod work? I'm just curious because finding fine threaded rod has been a pain.

I think it might be because as a rule the rod ends (the swivel things that attach to the sway bar) are fine thread.

 

I haven't seen one of the write-ups in a long time (got a link?) but I can't think of any reason they would need to be fine threaded rod. I don't know how long you need it, but you might try a truck place that makes their own u-bolts, they start the process with a long rod (some have grade 8 rod) with threads on both-ends. I'd be more concerned about the rod being grade 8 than the fine threads, but good luck finding grade 8 threaded rod.

Well if I understand the design right, I quess the rod end thingy has to slide up and down on the threaded rod. If so, it would work better with fine threads. It would work even better still with no threads in the middle as a nice smooth rod would let that rod end slide on the rod better.

 

The weak link in the discos I've found are the rod ends. Make sure these are adequately sized. The ones I bought were 5/16" I think. I broke 2 ends on the street with no wheeling done prior to the breakage.
