Question's about my new truck

Hey guys, I just bought a 1989 Pickup, 4x4, SR5, V6, xtra cab, 5 speed with 184,000 miles on it. It came with 31x10's mounted on 15" AR chrome wheels, and rear Rancho RS5000 shocks.

I love the truck and have always told myself that when I get a truck it would have to be a V6 Toyota xtra cab.

Since I'm new to this truck and this site, my question's are as follows:

1. I've heard that the head gasket's have recalls on them for the 3vze engine's, but I also read in the "3vze how many miles?" thread that the 1989-1990 had stonger head gasket's that lasted a lot longer. Is this true or not?

2. What kind of commen problem's can I expect from this truck? Keep in mind it's been taken care of really good and is probably one of the best looking 89's you'll ever see with an original paint job, plus I'm very religious about getting all the maintanece getting done either on time or earlier and I don't put my truck though abuse nor do I plan to either (a little 4x4 here and there)

3. Are gear's reccomended for my 31's? And how do they help, MPG, more power, ect...

4. And anything else you guys could tell me would be greatly appreciated.

This is a great site and I hope to learn a lot more about my truck and other Yota's here (my dad has a 97 Landcruiser)

Thanks

Juggalo

No, they didn't figure out the HG thing until later. My 93 has had the HG fixed twice.

The waterpumps and PS pump tend to leak at higher mileage, both of mine were original and they lasted till 170K miles. Not bad.

New "old" truck

Well congrats on the new truck first off! As for your HG question, shoot me your VIN # and I can check it in our computer here at the dealership see if you come up as a candidate for the recall. As for the rest of the truck and problems, the usuall stuff. Every truck is different due to driving conditions. Just look it over really well and go from there. If you ever need anything don't hesitate to drop me a line I supply a lot of the members here with parts to their rigs and would be happy to do the same for you. Welcom to the boards and enjoy.
