im getting my arb put in as we speak. its at 4wheelparts. we took it wed. and they said they should have it in. my pops talked to them last night and said they needed to replace some sort of bearing. apparently, they say there are none in atl and they had to order this part. my question is...should there be a replacement of a bearing/or is there any bearing to replace when you install an arb locker. i feel like they are scamming me..and just delaying working on my car

 

from what I hear the bearing usually have to be replaced. B/c when you remove the stuff they get damaged, its pretty common. I was told bearing run about $40-50.

 

so that brings up another...why didnt they anticipate this and order it when they ordered all of the parts? or does that seem way too obvious for 4wheelparts to do...?

 

any smart person will replace the bearings when the set up the gears and locker, just gives ya that much extra time on them. but i would have thought that 4wheelparts would have ordered then with or they should have been in the install kit for the gears.

 

In fact you should have just ordered a mast install kit for all the little parts that you need just in case.

 

Carrier bearings.

Some people just reuse them if they are in "good shape." Some people also drive Mini Coopers.

Mine are fresh Timkens front and rear. I cannot imagine why they would not have thought about that unless they planned on just reusing the oldies, which seems possible and consistent with their reputed stupidity.

They are called "carrier" or "side" bearings. I ordered mine from Todd of Toyota of Richardson here on the forum last Thursday and got it last Tuesday. They cost about 30 bucks or you can get them at your local toyota dealer if they have it in stock. I will be installing my ARB locker as soon as I find some time. Might as well replace the axle oil seals while you're at it.
