question on 4Runner Aluminum Skid Plate

I know these came on the Sport models. Are they the same ones that fit on Tacomas? If so what years? I have also seen on ebay people selling Tacoma / Seqoila skid splates, will this also fit a 4Runner?

I too am interested in this part. Ever since I put in the Body Lift the oem skid plate looks ugly to me and I'm thinking that the toyota one would dress it up a bit.

I did some inquiries on this and the skid plates you see for the Tacomas & Sequioas are different--the mounting holes are different according to Toyota parts dealership...-- they will NOT fit the 4Runner-- I too was looking for one for my truck...

This has been covered many times before, here is one thread I found:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/02-type-aluminum-skid-question-34609/

Basically the Toyota skid plate that is sold for the Tacoma will bolt right on the 96-98 4Runners with the stock front bumper, that is what I have on mine. If you have a "fat lip" 99-later, you will have to modify it to fit. Others here have done it.

I'm snagging SC4Runner's skid plate and his is a '96-'98 version and mine's a '99 so I guess I'll need to mod it to fit right?

calg3,the link you posted had somebody saying that the newer "fat lip" bumpered Runners need an actual plate for a Runner;is this true or are will they all work for any 3rd gen Runner?

If memory serves me correctly, other guys with 99+ 4Runners mounted the 96-98 "Tacoma" skid by either only using two bolts on the skid plate, thereby extending it out far enough to match your bumper or making little brackets out of flat stock to extend it out that far. It is not that hard to fabricate. I originally bought a Sport Edition skidplate from an '02 for my '96, but the brackets made the skid plate hang down too far and stick out too much from my bumper. So basically, you either need to fab your own brackets or space down and extend the 96-98 "Tacoma" skid to make it fit your 99+
