PS steering pump 3rd gen

I flipped my car about a week ago and think this might somehow be a result of it. My ps works fine unless im stopped and then most of the time it is extremely jerky, just working on and off until i give it gas and move. I was wondering if anyone knows if my pump is likely to be bad or if i may be a belt issue.

Did you check the fluids? Umm, sounds like a bad pump, but, could be your steering rack. The higher RPM's do charge the pressure in those things though. A bad belt usually will be accompanied by a squeel.

Flipped your truck? Are you/your truck otherwise okay?

yeah i was fine just really pissed off, but thinks sometimes i do have a squel so i will likely try a belt switch then change the pump if needed. I think it might have something also to do with the hydraulic milemarker winch.

At least try fluid level and the belt first before replacing the pump.
Was the truck running long upside down?

I dont think the PS pumps hold fluid to well when they are upside down. Just something I read on pirate a while back. Crank the wheel lock to lock and check the level.

Yep, you're right......that's why I asked how long it ran upside down. When you install a new rack, you always keep adding fluid while turning the steering wheel lock to lock. That gets all the air out of the system if there is any still in there.

Check the PS belt too, but it should be ok unless you got oil on it from flipping.

i fixed the problem by replacing the belt. I think the other one was either really loose or had some fluid on it. I know this is an old post but i am deleting my subscription and wanted to finish the thread in case someone else has the same problem.
