Powertraxx Noslip Locker in 3rd Gens

ATTENTION... i know many of you have been wondering if these noslips will fit in the 3rd gen and after much deliberation, i finally got a couple of knowledgeable people at powertraxx to confirm that it WILL NOT FIT in the rear of a 3rd gen 4runner.

I will try to get a specific line of reasoning out of them, but at the moment im consumed with returning my powertraxx locker and getting a lockrite.

oh well.

^^ ? no idea what that means.

but yes, indeed, it does NOT fit.

so if you need a locker, do not go the route of powertraxx if you have a 3rd gen 4runner.

Thanks for the update. That really sucks. It really seems like a good product and I wanted one bad!

No way I will run a lock rite. Good locker just not streetable enough for me. Maybe I will look into a detroit soft locker.

Thanks for all the time you put into this info Lee. Glad you didn't take it apart to find out it did not fit!

For those interested, I've done research on the detroit as well. Here's what I know or have at least read:

1. Detroit "soft" locker came out in the mid 90's to not be as obnoxious on the street as the original detroit locker. This is the model they make now and do not make the original one anymore (according to 4xdoctor in Burbank, CA).
2. This locker, unlike the lockrite, replaces the whole carrier. This is stronger but since it replaces the carrier, it costs more than a lock rite.
3. The Detroit soft locker is supposedly not that bad for on-road mannerisms if you have an auto tranny.
4. The cost is pretty much $500 from what I've seen. I haven't done in depth research to find it cheaper but $500 seems to be the going rate.

You know a lot of us are going to end up waiting and saving for ARB's. With our 01 and 02 set ups of Trac and VSC it make the most sense. If we full time locker it the systems are useless in the rear. Front should still work right but not the back.

I'm starting the savings for this mod. Then no swap issues or streetability issues and my TRAC still works which I really like!

Bummer lee. A floor jack and a couple jack stands makes quick work of rotating tires.

I only got one email notification (when Intrepid responded) and nada since?!?

I think it will only send you one email, until you log in and look at that post, then it will send you another the next time.

As far as a lockright on the road, I don't have a clue who these people are that are saying that they are miserable on the road, I have one, I drive it on the road all the time, even in the snow, and I love it, I have no complaints. There is a clicking in the corners, but that is it, and it isn't even loud enough to hear over the radio. Will your tires wear faster? Yeah, a little faster, but assuming you aren't locking them up and chirping around every corner, you will be fine. On road driving, a lockright is seamless, the only time you notice it is slow speed, sharp corners, and by going easy on it there, you avoid any problems.

Is this the Detroit SofLocker you're referring to?

[edit]If so, it doesn't appear they make one for 2001+ 4Runners either. [/edit]

its the same axle in 01+ as in 96-00, so if they make one for 96-00 then it will work.

this from powertrax engineers at least.
