I got a rebuilt pump from Auto Part Unlimited. I think it was $75. I bought a rebuilt pump because mine was leaking out the front seal. The shaft had rusted and was pitted pretty badly. I didn't think it could be rebuilt.

I got mine back together and everything is fine. The pump was in great condition after 12years and 110,000 miles. Everything I mic'ed was well within spec, in fact I was amazed at how tight the tolerances were on everything. The only rust I had was the very end of the shaft (outside the seal where the pulley makes contact). Light sanding took care of that.

I switched to Mobil 1 ATF and followed these intructions on changing the power steering fluid: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...power+steering

Like Mohamed suggested, I never let the reservior get empty (or tried not to). The fluid gets pumped out very fast so you can only run the engine for few seconds until you need to refill. I added a total of 2 quarts during the flushing to keep the reservior topped off.

callmej75, steveh29, mt goat, and anyone else here, how hard was it to remove then install the PSP? I don't have alot of experience with this type of thing, I can do the basics oil change, changed out the radiator of my 91 Legend took two days though, wired a car sub to my truck, rewired fog lamps to my other car, etc. What's a range of time if I removed the old pump and installed the new ones and what tools will I need? I found a place that will install it for $80.

The first part of the write-up I posted near the top of this thread covers what it takes to get it out pretty good except for a few things.

I removed the battery to get more room to work.

If your pulley is rusted on (like mine was) it can be a bitch to get off. I had to pry the pulley off using a pry bar. I placed the straight end of the pry bar (not the curled end) down in between the pump and pulley and using an adjustable wrench on the shank of the pry bar (hex shank pry bar) I twisted the shank of the pry bar and that pushed the pulley off. Mine wasn't rusted very bad so it could get worse. Check the pulley and pump for burrs afterwards if you do this. Don't do like one guy did and use a gear puller, he said all it did was bend the pulley.

The high pressure hose took a pretty big wrench, 22mm if I remember right.

Thanks mt goat I studied the write up and determined my limited experience with my truck (this truck hobby is very new to me) I wasn't comfortable yet with attempting this task. I had my PS System flushed and had the rebuilt pump installed and no problems. Thanks again.

Thanks callmej75 for the tip on the Autozone PS Pump.

No problem....the whole task took me about 2 hours with hand tools but wasn't really that hard i guess if you have alot of experience with mechanic work. the hardest thing with my new pump was getting all the air out.
