Power Steering Pump Rebuild or New?

Ok So I got a leak in my 94 v6 runner. I can see a small puddle of fluid at the back end of the power steering pump and I have had to refill it twice in the last month. My question is I have read some about a rebuild kit from the dealer. Does anyone know what is in the kit and is this a piece of cake to do or is there a good chance I could screw it up worse. Anyone done one of these before? Also I plan on keeping this vehicle until it dies so should I just get a reman pump for 100 bucks or so or do the rebuild kit from the steeler?

PS. YOU GUYS KICK BUTT TOO. I GOT MY AISIN HUBS REBUILD AND PAINTED AND ON AND THEY LOOK HELLA GOOD> I NEED TO GET SOME PICS

Go with the rebuild kit. $40 from the stealer gets you all the o-rings and gaskets you need to get it done. Aslo helps to have the FSM as a guide. Go slow, make sure to do it right the first time.

Sounds good, does anyone know the timeframe it takes to do the job. Its my only vehicle and I dont want to be out of comission for too long. I have the FSM pages for it. I downloaded them from some site which was pretty cool http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...fsm/index.html this is the entire service manual for a 93 runner but I imagine the pump is the same for the 94. Who ever it was that took there time to put that web page together I say thank you.

How long depends on yer wrenching skills. I would plan for at least 2 hours.

Be careful when ordering the seal kit, there seems to be 2 or 3 different part numbers, depending on year and engine size. I think the right one for my 93 4x4 pickup V6 is #04446-20090. Other numbers were 04446-30030 and 04446-20031. I guess they had some different PS pumps for different model and years. Hope I ordered the right one because no one has these kits in stock and it would be at least 2-3 days delay if you get the wrong one.

I called 5 dealers and 3 out of the 5 told me the same part number. One of the 3 ask me for my VIN #.

Could help I supose, sounds like it could not hurt. I can visually see where mine is puddling up in the rear. So I believe its that rear o-ring. Can you tell where yours is leaking from?

Sounds like you have had the same problem I ran into Saturday....leaking resorvoir o-ring. Since my g/f ran it dry it screwed up the pump so I bought a reman pump at auto zone for $50.

I got the seal kit and have taken the pump out and I made my first mistake. The air control valve (ACV) has two vac lines coming out of it and I didn't mark which one was which. Is there anyway to tell now? I guess I have a 50-50 chance of getting it right huh.

My second mistake was putting an air nozzle with about 80 psi up to where the vac lines connect to the ACV and blasting away. The insides to the ACV shot out of there like a bullet out of a barrel, straight out the shop door into the backyard somewhere After searching for about 15 min I called the Toyota stealer to see about getting a new ACV and they had one in stock but wanted $103 for it, and of coarse they don't sell just the inside part of it. So I go back to the yard and start searching again with renewed determanation. I kept asking myself if there was a $100 bill hidden in the yard how long would I look for it. I'm looking though grass, weeds, dirt, old flower pots, around trash cans, what's left of last year's garden, when there under a sage bush, it was staring back at lucky me. . Total time searching 45 min.

So now I'm ready pull the pump insides apart, are there more pit falls I should be on the look out for, besides my own stupitity?

Any one know the correct part number for an 89 V6 4wd 5spd. I picked up a seal kit, from the dealer, last weekend (its at home right now) and want to make sure I have the correct one? Thanks.

Hey callmej75, did you have any problems with your rebuilt from autozone, either with the part itself or the installation???? They have it hear at the autozones for $59.
