Mostly on the highway my 1994 22re will suddenly loose power. It will go fine but then it feels like i hit a wall of wind and i loose about 50% of my power. The rpm's stay the same and it doesn't make a difference if i floor it or even down shift. I have a K&N air intake that is clean, the exhaust is close to new and the cat is new. I replaced the plugs and the fuel filter to see if that would fix the problem but didnt. Has this happened to anybody else? Anybody have any ideas?

 

Have you checked all your belts, and what else happens when you lose "power" does anything dim? any noises, shakes or knocks?

 

My alternator belt is a little loose right now but this problem was going on before that. And nothing else really happens when the power dies out. It doesn't seem like an electrical problem because nothing dims, there is no knocking or pinging either. It just feels like it runs out of gas or something but then it will kick back in and go fine.

 

clutch or a fuel delivery problem maybe the fuel sock on the bottom of the fuel pump in the tank

 

check your cat, it maybe getting plugged

 

I'll have to check that fuel sock. That sounds like it could be it, at least I hope its something simple like that. Is it hard to get to On a 94 pickup??

 

Is this only at full throttle?

 

Yeah I only notice it on the highway when I'm at or close to full throttle. I have 32X11.5's with a 4 banger so I'm pretty much all the way down on the loud pedal on the highway. You know what it is Dragr1?

Sounds like the maf (mass air flow sensor), at least that is what it was on my '99 with the exact same symptoms. If it isn't that, then try the throttle position sensor. I would bet it is the maf though.

 

does a 22r have a mass air flow sensor?

 

No the 22re has a VFM (vain flow meter) the more air pulled in, the further the vane opens, and moves a potentiometer that sends the signal to the ECU.

 

thanx, i'll take a look at the MAF (or the VFM). Whichever it is on my 22re> I'll have to check the book.
