Power antenna won't go down
I have a 98 Limited and the antenna stopped going down yesterday. It went about 1/4 down then stuck. The antenna motor still runs for about 10 seconds when the truck is started or shut off. I can't push the antenna down, but it will move up and down between 3/4 to fully extended. Is this a fixable problem? I think the motor has become disconnnected from the spool of plastic line. Does anyone have a scan of an exploded view of the power antenna? Thanks, Chris

Chris,
The mast itself has plastic teeth at the bottom of it which spools itself to the antenna motor. Replace the mast and feed it w/ the teeth towards the back of the 4runner.
Or take a look at my write up on replacing the motorized antenna unit w/ a fixed "Taco whip" unit. I can't tell you how pleased I am w/ this mod. The only downside is that if you take your 4runner to a car wash, you better remove (or have it removed) b/f you go through the car wash---but then again, why are you taking your baby through a car wash anyways?!?!?

Hi Chris;
I second Bob's suggestion about a Taco whip - or anything other than a power antenna.
I just replaced my power antenna with a $9 "rubber duckie" that I bought at Schuck's. It works great. I don't have issues with the antenna possibly getting bent from a low tree; I don't have the issue of one-more-mechanical-thing-to-go-wrong; and the reception is actually _better_.
