power antenna help
Yesterday my antenna would not go down on my 4runner and when it tries to go up. the motor makes an awful grinding noise. Today I pulled out the antenna and the plastic toothed piece was not attached. I would assume that the piece is stuck down in the motor. I tried to get the wheel well liner out, but could not due the clips in the liner. What is the best way to remove the clips?
I am thinking of doing to Tacoma whip antenna. Do I just unplug the motor and then install the new antenna?
I am basically looking for the easiest and cheapest thing to do. Any help is greatly appreciated

anyone who replies with this should be banned from now on. thank you.

I just changed my antenna. I ripped the old one off, ripped the notched mast out of the motor, and put on one of those cheap $5 ones from wal-mart. It's black and small, and gets better reception. Might be a good temporary fix until you get the whip, let me know how it goes..

i wish everyone would stop saying this. yes you can search and find it. but sometimes the search is not effective in getting you what you want. i can search for one thing and it brings up NUMEROUS posts and I search for two hours and still don't find what I need.

you don't feed me. do you?
and second, you can do a little better than "Refer navigation bar above, fourth button from left "search" There are a million threads on antenna's". that was a pretty rude reply, in my opinion.
i like your second reply better. you did the search for him. that's what he asked for in the first place. thank you.
sorry for being so offtopic Tx, hopefully his link helped

I guess I did not word my question correctly. I tried to remove the wheel well line and get to the motor but was not sure if there is a better way to remove the clips besides just cutting them and then replacing them.
I am thinking about possibly doing the tacoma whip antenna, but I figure that if I have to take out the motor unit I might as well just clean it out and then put the new mast in and keep the power antenna.
I would rather just have the motor turned off and the telescoping antenna stay down all the time though. I cannot push the telescoping antenna back together though.
I my searching I saw where people bought antennas from walmart and just screwed them in but cut the power line to the motor.
I was basically asking for yalls take on the easiest and cheapest thing to do.
I saw where people said they could get the parts for the tacoma whip for $60 but they never posted links. Is that price right?
