He's obviously into his Runner and that's what counts no matter what your style or preference is.

(No offense, but do those scores on a certified DbDrag/Linear X/B&K meter and then I'll be impressed.) The USAC folks always have scoffed at db drag scores until they came to play in the lanes at which point their eyes were opened....
DbDrag and I only meter legal on the dash, all doors and windows closed. 4kw on 2 15's yeilded that score. And I am well aware of the box making or breaking the sub's performance.
I had 2 8" RF's doing legal 145s at 52hz from the very back of my truck.
If you were to sit in my truck when my wall was in (ive torn it out since then) you couldn't physically breath during bass hits. Any soda cans in the drink holder would not remain there. Forget about even reading the instrument cluster let alone stuff outside. You got to watch the windsheild wipers bounce a full 2" off of the windshield - and if you are outside, you not only felt the bass still, but you could watch the windsheild itself flex a solid 1/2." I cant count the number of people who underestimated the system before they heard it, then literally jumped out of the truck holding their ears screaming that it was too loud....lol ahh the memories....

The meetering was done on the dash as well. I can see how you questions the dbl numbers, most people do...until they hear my 8" JBL sub in my 4Runner *LOL*....the 133 was done on the same 8" in the back of my 89 Supra (hatchback helped
) and it continues to roll down to its tuned 32hz low rolling bass....I can only put about 100watts rms max on it because how it is tuned allows the speaker to move further than it was meant to do if given too much power. But keeping it with low watts give perfect frequency response, smooth frequency curve all the way down to (if i remember correctly) a 38db 3db dropoff. This is one of those thing you'd just have to hear to believe, I wouldn't expect most people to believe how wonderful this 8" sounds (most guess two 10"s or a 12")...I would imagine you would understand where I'm coming from seeing as how you had two 8" hitting impressive spl's (145)....why would it be impossible for me to have one 8" hitting 133 in a hatchback??
btw, the box is a two chambered box one side with the speaker, a divider PORTED wall between the chambers with the other chamber ported to the outside....the non-sub chamber is tuned 10hz below the side with the speaker in it...mid and high bass come from the speaker....low bass is amplified in the other chamber and sent out the ports...VERY efficient, awesome sound...but lowers the handling watts of the speaker.
also, my bro went to Installer's Institute in Daytona Florida...they had things down there that were unbelievable...a box with like ten 4" speakers rolling bass *LOL*...just to prove, with the right physics involved (the best box) it could be done

no, no, no, I didn't mean that I doubted your 133 for an instant - I was referring to the 4 10s doing a 148 and change with 200 total watts. I was thinking outlaw metering on that score - if he did it legally, then more power to him.
But I wasnt doubting the 133 from your single 8 for an instant. If I understood your box description correctly, you have a modified ABC box. (Something btwn an ABC and a 4th order bandpass....) I LOVE complicated boxes - isn't it cool when you impress nonbelievers with 8s?
these are the boxes that did the 145.2@52hz with **cough**1500watts**cough** They were not liking life very much when being metered. These are just ported boxes with 16sq in of port 33" long opening to a 0.65cube chamber.

I went nuts a while back building an ABC (Aperiodic BiChamber) box for one of my 8s. The main goal was maximum power handling and retaining DEEP low end bass.
1.5 cubes, 8sq in of port tuned to 30hz was the start (I think the port was 15" long). The I divided the chamber into 2 sections, one 1cubic ft and the other 0.5cubes. The first port vented into the 1cube section, then I made 2 exact replicas of the first port and put one in the divider btwn the 2 chambers and the 3rd port into the 0.5cube section. The sub then fired out from the 0.5cube chamber. (The airspace must be absolutely correct with this box for best results - Im about 19 cubic inches off)
I haven't stuck the box into my yota yet as it's doing home theatre sub duty....but at 50hz (the tuning of the small chamber) I was able to feed this single 8 a solid 1kw clipped - well mechanically anyhow, thermally it was not liking life, so I chilled...lol) Mom - a total home SQ nut was impressed with its sq when we watched Matrix, so I was pleased....lol
I have a few friends in orlando that are thinking about enrolling in the installer's institute down there with Fishman. What was your friends thoughts on the school? Was it worth the $$?

I would have to agree on the ridiculous runners. IMHO they are ridiculous and then some. Probably some rich kid owns the runner and is saying LOOK AT ME!!!!! MY DAD GIVES ME LOTS OF MONEY!!!!
All those runners need are big ass wings on the back and neon lights to make the road look blue. Basically a ricer in sheeps clothing.
Just my opinion though. Flame me if ya like. I can take it.

The whole 'eye candy on your ride' thing is more than over. I mean it really kills me when I go over to my friends apartment complex and you have some guy, or girl for that matter, with a runner that looks like it had a run in with a chrome-plating machine. Candy coated custom graphics, 2 sets of CHROME piaa lights, dropped, with some sprewells...all this in an APARTMENT Complex!!! 20's, 22' s, heck even 18's are now so gaudy that only a select few can stomach parting with the overpriced amount required to attain them (can you say Bills?) I want some aftermarket rims as well, but in no way will I seek out something that will take a nice runner and turn it into 'street show' material.
As far as the sound system, I am a sound nut. Therein lies a limit as well. If you are going to compete then win and win often, otherwise go home. Having said that I have seen runners with screens in the visors, headrests, ceiling mounted (in front of all four seats), and in the rear. I think that the overwhelming majority of people in this forum go for functionality over looks, bling only if you feel a need to be seen (or just run onto a soccer field like the guy on the Nike commercial....LOL)

I believe we may have had the same idea desing for our 8"s
I have the same thing....two chambers ported between each other...and the speaker on one chamber and ported out on the other chamber...yeah...nothing like an 8" that rolls soooo smooth *LOL*...most people dont believe me that you cant just build a square and stick any old speaker in it....especially the people that call "porting a box" just sticking a pvc pipe in it...any ol diameter/length.....there are long formulas that take into account the spec of the exact speaker (fs, qts, vas...) that determine the air space and port specs....although WinISD has a very nice interface where you can actually grab the frequency curve and move it and it adjusts the box size/specs real time...very nice.http://www.linearteam.dk/default.aspx?pageid=winisd
We use to do things by hand and maybe use Leaf back in the old days....

btw, it was 4 JBL 10's on an old Crunch 260watt amp...with 2 JBL 4-way 6X9's on top of the 10's box....JBL 6.5's in the door and JBL tweets on the dash (the customer didn't want to pay for a more fancier setup with center channels and so on.....) PLUS this was playing "real music" and by that I mean it wasn't a one note burp like the competitions are doing now days
I think the actual song was "Here Comes the Hotstepper - Ini Kamozee" or something
Again, this was the mid 90's when everyone thought "more speaker=more sound"...very few of us followed physics and efficiency to make loud sound...Competitions were judged on songs chosen by the event...You never know, Madonna might have been used in the Outlaw SPL class *hahah*...our systems were set up for music...not just loud bass.....now days people stand outside their car with a remote and hit one frequency for 1/100th of a second and its over...few of them actually sound good with real music...some do...but very few...Anyways, I have the trophy with the dbl numbers on it (got 2nd or 3rd, cant remember) to prove it *LOL*sounds like you got a good setup there Steve...yep...you're right, it sure is fun making believers out of non-believers and beating people's 12's and 10's with only 1 8" *LOL*

and I believe it was Outlaw metering on that 148
not near as "legal" as some of the more recent ways of metering
as for The Installer's Institute, my bro LOVED it....well worth the money....they even taught fiberglass and custom door panel classes.....I never went, just my bro (but we are both MECP certified first class installers...but then again, who isnt?
) but, he said it was definitely worth it...been building "oddly impressive boxes" ever since...
my favorite was a box (similar to my 8 box design) with 4 crunch 6"s *LOL*...we bet a guy it would kill his kicker 12" in the back of his Eclipse...we played his in his own car, took it out, put the four 6"s in his own car, and it blew away his 12" *LOL*...too funny

My car is like the opposite.
Hope I dont get banned for posting a pic of my stang,
everything ive done to it is purely functional for handling
and power, its not all that flashy and ive kept it cosmetically
close to stock.
